Advent T9 desktop PC with Medion MD8088 motherboard, pc reboots after about 1 hour, cpu fan runs continuously even when pc is shutdown, does not appear to be overheating according to Sandra. Any clues
Re-used the same CPU, just removed it to clean and replace the thermal paste as I had a similar problem on an old PC where the heatsink had come away from the CPU.Re-used the same CPU, just removed it to clean and replace the thermal paste as I had a similar problem on an old PC where the heatsink had come away from the CPU.

Tried that, removed cleaned and replaced the CPU with new thermal paste etc. no difference. I thought the CPU fan running continuously (even after shutdown) may indicate a motherboard problem.Tried that, removed cleaned and replaced the CPU with new thermal paste etc. no difference. you replaced the cpu? where is the old one? try to reset the bios using the jumpers on the board.you replaced the cpu? where is the old one? try to reset the bios using the jumpers on the board.

When you say "fan" do you mean case fan or CPU fan? Almost sounds like the CPU fan is inoperative and the system is shutting down on CPU overtemp, then trying to restart.
Open the Control Panel. Power Options, Change/Adjust power off settings, change Sleep and Hibernate to Never, set to High Performance. A reboot everyday will reset your computer.
If you brought the machine to me, the very first thing I'd is open the case and look inside. The most common cause of system shutdown is overheating, either due to fan failure or a dirty machine. Dirt is the enemy of the PC> If there is a failed CPU fan, or the CPU heat sink is totally clogged with dirt, then I would recommend getting a can of dust remover (canned air) at your local big box store and clean out the PC, then try again. Do not remove the CPU heat sink to clean it unless you have replacement thermal paste to reinstall it! You can usually clean it sufficiently wit the canned air.
On motherboard. Please, make sure all fans are connected into motherboard. Some fans can't plug in into the board at all. So, you can ignore those fans. When you go to Bios to check thermal condition, if a fan is not plug in, you can see 0 degree. 0 degree dosen't cause the shutdown problem. (That's why you can ignore) Then check which fans are causing problem, first. (If you did and found the problem, go next.) Replace fans AND clean those dust! If the problem remains, then replace its case to steel one.
Well, usually a lifetime of CPU fan is pretty longer than others.
Just in case, one more thing, if the thermal condition is OK, then the shutdown problem is caused by something ales!
ur advent shutdowns to protect the processor from damage ur advent is nt desktop so u cant apply cpu gel in it.i recommend u to check out the cooling fan working correctly or not ,if it is under warranty then take it to product care center.
example for external: mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer.
Internal: hard drive, memory modules, video cards, modem (if there's any), optical drive or dvd drives.
just leave the motherboard, power supply and processor intact, try turning on the computer with out those components mentioned. see if you get a beep sound before it turns off, but if not the most logical part that needs to be replaced on this type of problem is the power supply if that doesn't work the next thing to do is replace the motherboard. hope that helps
Could very well be the power supply. The +12V rail may still be live (hence the fans running), but the others may be down (meaning you won't get a beep signal if the memory modules are removed and the computer restarted).
Unplug your computer from the wall socket. Then the only power it will have is the battery that keeps the CMOS information. There will not be enough power for anything to run.
Check the fans in your pc, it sounds like at least one of them isent working properly and your pc gets overheated. When a pc going to warm it gets really slow and hangs.
My guess is that the CPU-fan dosent work properly and your CPU gets overheated, but check all the fans to be sure. The CPU fan runs cantantly, check so it dosent stop now and then.
Re-used the same CPU, just removed it to clean and replace the thermal paste as I had a similar problem on an old PC where the heatsink had come away from the CPU.
