Local repairman says my Model 110 motor is bad, as much to repair as new machine. I looked at new machines and there's NO comparison to this wonderful old machine. Called this repairman to say, don't care, please replace motor---then he said transmission could be bad...all parts are old--not worth repairing. It seems part of his answer may be due to him being older and not wanting to fool with it--can't tell. Hoping an "expert" here can understand my great desire to fix my old machine rather than purchase a new one that's not near as featured or as conveniently designed and talk to me about the feasibility of such an undertaking *and* whether parts are available on this model (unsure of date, but probably +/- 15 yrs old.) THANK YOU

Sounds like the motor or the element has a problem , this in turn will activate the safety switch this may be the click you hear, most times all that is required is a new capacitor on the Linear induction motor , or a new heater element both cheaper than a new machine and available on ebay for most machines .However I must remind you electricity for the unskilled is dangerous, and Machines both washing and tumblers are notorious for delivering near fatal and fatal electric shocks due to bad repair or maintenance, my advise is for you to seek the help of your local repairman.
Usually it is in your top threading, try totally rethreading your machine, there is a free copy of your manual on www.singerco.com (download it and save it, plus print it) and try following the directions on that. Do you trust your repairman? If, he charged you $200 and it still does not work, I think I would look elsewhere or call the State Attorney General's Office, and make him take care of you. That is not right because you can buy are new machine for less than that. You do have a good machine but if it repairs cost too much, time to let go
Run a few washes without soap. You may be using to much detergent. The machine only uses a gallon of water. You put much soap in there and that puppy will growl like grizzly bear. Only a tiny amount of soap is all you need or bad things are going to happen. You seeing any brown stains on your clothes? That is a sign of a bad bearing.
Not sure about a reset switch on it but I can tell you that a dryer not heating is usually either because of a bad heating element, or a bad temp fuse. You can get both parts from an appliance repair shop if you have the model number from the machine and they are fairly easy to replace. Also a pro repairman can do it for a little more cash.
If the motor is running and it is not aggitating or spinning than u have a bad coupling. lean the machine back and look where the motor mounts to the transmission. look to see if you have a broken coupling connecting the two together.
If the machine agitates, you probably have a bad pump. This is pretty straightforward repair, and I'm sure I can help you if you think you can do this yourself. Follow this link to a previous explanation on cabinet removal and you will find the pump right in front of you when you get the cabinet off. The part is relatively inexpensive to obtain from a local appliance part store. Changing is very simple. Hope this helps you :)
You have a broken drive coupler. This is a very common part that fails. This is the piece of rubber between the motor and the transmission. Lean the machine back and reach behind the motor and you will be able to feel the rubber coupler wiggle. This is supposed to be tight. Another sign of it being bad is rubber on the floor under the machine. I replace at least 5 a week. This is your problem for sure. The part number is 285753. You can order this at sears.com or your local parts store should have it in stock.
