Hello.
It looks like you ignored lamp replacement in your TV. It have to be replaced every 2.5 years of average use. It's like oil change in a car. Regular scheduled service.
You can read info about lamp replacement in your TV owner's manual, buy lamp on-line and replace it by yourself to save some money.
Regards.
Russ.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the info - wish I had realized about the lamp replacement - should have read the manual I guess."

Samsung dlp slow to light up when first turned on

if your TV is slow to light up when first turned on its more then likely your bulb. When your bulb start to go bad it will take the TV longer to come on. Try using the bright feature in the menu. If that brightens your TV up then its your lamp going bad.

Samsung DLP Tv

it's about 3000 to 5000 hrs. on the bulb this translates to about 3 to 5 yrs. of normal use. it can, however, be greatly reduced by the number of on/off conditions. lamps need to cool down that is why the fans run longer after shut down.
obviously if the TV doesn't turn on that can be lamp. weak or dim picture is another sign.

Hitachi-picture goes out but can still have sound

If it is a Hitachi 60V500 LCD projection TV, then I would suspect the lamp being the problem.
