Got the Sony s350. Just bought Avatar Extended Edition and after the start telling about upgrades BUBKIS! Anyone else have this problem?

Just to confirm you are not alone. We have the 3 Disc Blu-ray Extended Edition Collectors Edition and the same Sony bdp-s350. Black screen. I updated the software yesterday directly thru the ethernet connection.

    ive got the same s350, all my discs EXEPT for my Avatar extended edition wont play. A-team movie did play, but now that wont either. I keep getting dicked around by sony. pretty stressed right now, dont know what to do

The new avatar blu.ray dont work
If the firmware update still doesn't work, ensure you have a USB key connected to your player. I have the BDP-S350 and Avatar wouldn't work until I connected a USB drive to it. Ensure it is formatted correctly-anything new should work fine.

What type of TV? Plasma / LED / LCD.. ?
Typically you should run through your HDMI ... most of the 5 RGB etc.. in the back can only be used on one of the inputs only for high def... HDMI is easier but more expensive cables..

Player is very slow to start . Compared with a normal DVD player it takes 20 times longer to begin. Just bought Avatar bluray and gave up and watched the normal version. Isthere an upgrde for this player...
you can always check for upgrades in sonystyle.com .

blue rays devices tipically start slow, as they begin trying to connect online to get new upgrades, not just for the device, but also for the movies.

so far, you have one upgrade in sonystyle.com :

issued in November 2009. Which could be after the manufacture date of your device, so, you have to apply it.

The most likely cause of your frustration with the BDP-S350 is that your player's firmware is not the most current. I have the same model, and had similar problems with Blue Ray Discs like 'Wall-E'.

The solution is to go to sony's website, download the firmware upgrade, burn it to a disc and then load the disc into the player to fix it.

SONY BDP-S350 MULTIREGIONAL PROB
You should get Asian firmware.

They are (despite printed DVD Region 3, BD Region A) all DVD region free. Tested on mine (bought in Thailand).

Panasonic BD30 was also DVD Region free. The firmware for that one is available from Panasonic website. Not sure if there's another way than automatic update from inside BD player to upgrade Sony.

HDMI not working Sony BDP-S350
With sony products sometimes you have to use sony parts to get it to work. I would suggest to buy a sony HDMI cable and see what happens if that doesn't work then take the player back to the store because you got a faulty player.

you need an external memory device, like a Sony USB flash memory, to view Bonus stuff on some discs.It goes into the EXT slot. Get the Sony USM1GH. You're trying to view a bonus disc without it...
