PS3 No picture or sound

I tried connecting the component AV cable (G,B,R,W,R) to the component video in connector on my TV and there was no picture or sound. I was doing this because I needed to connect it to another TV without the HDMI connector in the back. The HDMI connection worked on my other TV but the AV cable (G,B,R,W,R) wouldn't work on it . I tried resetting the PS3 to standard resolution by shutting off the system and then pressing and holding the power button until it turned from red to green and then back to red. Now I get no picture or sound on HDMI also. Do you know what is going on?

Yeah. I just picked up a 40GB PS3 today. I had hooked it up to a Samsung LCD TV with a HDMI cables and was fine. Went to go play MGS4 and was fine up until when the video just disappeared. I then hooked it up using the cables which came with the system, and it worked for a while. After that, I started having all of the same symptoms as Kierok's PS3 had. What gives??

There are blurry rainbow lines on my Wii Display. How do you fix it?

The issue you're describing sounds like a problem with the AV cables or the AV port on the Wii console. To fix it, you can try the following steps:
  1. Make sure the AV cables are properly connected to the Wii console and the TV.
  2. Check that the cables are not damaged, and that the connectors are not bent or broken.
  3. Try using a different set of AV cables, or try using a different TV or monitor to see if the problem is with the cables or the Wii console.
  4. Clean the AV port on the Wii console and the connectors on the AV cables with a dry cloth.
  5. If the problem persists, it may be a hardware issue with the Wii console, and you may need to get it repaired or replaced.
Keep in mind that it's best to use the official component video cables and official component video cable will give the best picture quality.

Turn on ps3 i get no picture or sound then i cant turn it off i have to unplug it whats wrong with it?

  • Check your HDMI Cable

HDMI is available in several versions. The PS3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PS3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PS3.

  • Cable adaptors (i.e., HDMI to DVI converters)

If you are using an adaptor (i.e., HDMI to DVI converter), try bypassing this adaptor and connecting the HDMI cable directly into the display.

  • Check the adaptorTry an alternate cable

  • Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HDMI setup and/or equipment.

  • Some older HDTVs may have issues with the copy protection protocols (HDCP) causing the handshake not being communicated between the TV and the PS3. Try resetting the TV by turning the TV and PS3 off, then unplug the TV power cord from the outlet and plug it back in. Then turn your TV and PS3 back on and see if the picture appears.

  • Try using a different the HDMI Cable on the PS3.Make sure the HDMI Cable is free of any cuts, frays or other visible damage.
  • Try installing the PS3 to another TV or display (i.e., monitor).
  • Try using the HDMI Cable with a different PS3 system.

Hooked up hd cable to ps3 and tv, now have no sound

Be sure to check the cables. You may need to replace them.

Try the cables with another component, if possible.

Also, try using AV cables to verify that it is not the TV and to simply troubleshoot:

To get back to default AV settings:

Press and hold the power button until the systems shuts off. (wait 2 seconds)

Press and hold the power button again until it shuts off again.

Once you have verified that AV is working, turn off console, take out AV cables.

Plug in HDMI cable and turn system back on. Switch TV input to HDMI and it will ask you if you would like to use the HDMI cables, select yes again and verify.

If you cannot get sound, again, check the cables..

If new cables do not work, then your HDMI output is going bad, not from use rather normal wear and tear of the motherboard.

To get the best non HD picture, you will need to get some 'component' cables, rather than the standard AV (red, white, yellow).

Good luck

Psp3 no picture on tv tried new usb lead

So you are using this cable to connect to the TV? On this cable is there only a red, yellow & white connector? This is known as an S-Video or AV cable.

Can you make sure you are connecting it in the right part of your TV. Once connecting it you will need to select the AV input on your TV or you may need to tune the TV into that input (depending on your TV age/model)

The best connection for the PS3 would be the HDMI cable which is one lead with one connector at either end (though this is for HD TVs only)

Hope this helps

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.

I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.

Cheers

how are you connected to your tv? if your are connected in HD mode (hdmi cable) you will only get a 16:9 picture... SD mode (AV cable, S VIDEO cable, Component AV cable or SCART) will transmit a picture of 16:9 or 4:3 (4:3 being the old 'square screen' mode)

Connect PS3 for playing/viewing blue-ray thru surround sound

Connect the PS3 to your TV with the hdmi cable and to the surround sound system with a digital optical cable, then set your PS3 to output sound through the optical port (through the sound options menu) and you're good to go!
