I tried connecting the component AV cable (G,B,R,W,R) to the component video in connector on my TV and there was no picture or sound. I was doing this because I needed to connect it to another TV without the HDMI connector in the back. The HDMI connection worked on my other TV but the AV cable (G,B,R,W,R) wouldn't work on it . I tried resetting the PS3 to standard resolution by shutting off the system and then pressing and holding the power button until it turned from red to green and then back to red. Now I get no picture or sound on HDMI also. Do you know what is going on?
PS3 is The amazing device by sony but it has some common problems like sound problem, video problem etc.... Good news is that these all problems can be repaired with the help of DIY Guides, one such guide available at PS3 Repair Blog
When you connecting sony via hdmi sony and tv must be shut down.First turn on sony then tv.Connect also and av cable or scart then go to sony settings and change out signal via hdmi or scart or av cabel and confirm. That should work
HDMI is available in several versions. The PS3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PS3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PS3.
If you are using an adaptor (i.e., HDMI to DVI converter), try bypassing this adaptor and connecting the HDMI cable directly into the display.
Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HDMI setup and/or equipment.
Some older HDTVs may have issues with the copy protection protocols (HDCP) causing the handshake not being communicated between the TV and the PS3. Try resetting the TV by turning the TV and PS3 off, then unplug the TV power cord from the outlet and plug it back in. Then turn your TV and PS3 back on and see if the picture appears.
Press and hold the power button again
until it shuts off again.
Once you have verified that AV is working, turn off console, take out AV cables.
Plug in HDMI cable and turn system back on. Switch TV input to HDMI and it will ask you if you would like to use the HDMI cables, select yes again and verify.
If you cannot get sound, again, check the cables..
If new cables do not work, then your HDMI output is going bad, not from use rather normal wear and tear of the motherboard.
To get the best non HD picture, you will need to get some 'component' cables, rather than the standard AV (red, white, yellow).
Good luck

Yeah. I just picked up a 40GB PS3 today. I had hooked it up to a Samsung LCD TV with a HDMI cables and was fine. Went to go play MGS4 and was fine up until when the video just disappeared. I then hooked it up using the cables which came with the system, and it worked for a while. After that, I started having all of the same symptoms as Kierok's PS3 had. What gives??
HDMI cable to the Coax cable for another TV and system does not work-how do I reset the system?
