Ryobi told me the unit can't have the s430 trimmer bottom end raised higher than the engine at any time, or it will leak. Apparently they released a product to compete with other companies for cheap 4 cycle trimmers without much care for the end user.

My Ryobi s430 leaks from the camshaft. See no lip seal, so either it wasn't installed or a bad design.

SOURCE: Does a Ryobi trimmer S430

the Ryobi S430 is a 4 cycle engine. As such it has an oil reservoir which takes 30 weight oil. It uses straight gasoline in the gas tank.

Pull cord on my ryobi s430 string trimmer doesn't engage to turn motor over.

Michael under the pull cord is a gadget that when you pull the cord two wings open and grip the starter. If you can get the starter off make sure these are coming out properly. It may just need a little oil on them.

Ryobi gas trimmer

I don't mean to over simplify this, but are you using fresh gas? Gas string trimmers are extremely ticky when it comes to gas. They like it SUPER fresh. And while the gas and oil mixture should be right, it can be off a little bit and still run. Try draining all of the gas out, and then filling up with fresh mix. This is ALWAYS my first step with string trimmers, and it fixes the problem 75% of the time.
Hope this helps!!
