Not all disks reflect the laser beam the same. If the lens is of lower quality then some light will be lost passing thru it. If on top of that the disk is less reflecting then the return laser light might not be enough to trigger the sensor - the disk is not recognized. If you were unlucky enough to buy a unit with a less than perfect lens then it's normal that even a very small amount of dust will have a big impact on the readability of the disks.
Sorry, manufacturing defect, there is nothing anyone can do. Use it as is or you will have to buy a new one.
