Hi - I recently bought a 51,000 mile (yes) 2-litre petrol 940. It's blowing out a lot of grey-ish smoke on pretty much every drive, even at idle. A garage told me that it could a worn turbo or it just needs a long drive to clear out the system if it's been sitting around unused (which it must have been). Any ideas? Thanks very much
Grey-ish smoke sounds like rich mixture, not oil burning.Grey-to black is usually excess fuel.Whitish smoke is coolant being burned-bad news! If rich mixture, check for air intake leaks (air intake hoses/manifiold gasket),MAF,fuel pressure regulator.
It sounds like either you have leaky piston rings or partially blown seals in the turbo. the seals kit shouldn't be very much but depending on where the turbo is, it could cost a lot in labor. piston rings are a whole different story.

Exhaust is very smokey (Grayish) and fuel is leaking in the crankcase on a 1994 Ford Ranger
