You probably got a blockage in your wand which caused it to overheat and cut out. Check for blockages, use a brush stale down the tube to dislodge anything. Next, check your filters, refer to the tutorials here: Looking after your Dyson.

Wand on dyson dc 17 is clogged

Hi there,

If you've noticed a blockage in your DC17's wand, you should be able to remove this using something like a garden cane to dislodge it, after separating the wand from the end of the hose. Take care not to damage the wand when you do this.

You may also want to run through the troubleshooting steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure there are no other blockages in the machine:

Wand in stowaway dyson is hard to extend. Seems like u have to pull 3 clips from grooves in 3 rings around wand to extend and shorten wand which is a struggle

Hi there, you should just be able to hold the telescopic wand in one hand, press the button and pull the whole length of the wand out to its fullest position.

If the telescopic wand on your particular Dyosn is very stiff, you may need a replacement.

Your machine may still be under guarantee or warranty. If this is the case, please contact Dyson directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

Lack of suction in hose

That popping sound is the bleed valve activating - it indicates that there is a blockage in the machine somewhere, probably in the wand if you're saying that there is no suction in the wand.

- Take the wand off the back of the machine - press the two gray buttons to separate it from the hose - hold the wand in the air and look through it - if you can't see the light coming through the other side there's a blockage in the wand - taka a long object like a meytal hanger and remove the blockage.

If that's not the problem, call the Dyson helpline for further troubleshooting, they know what they're doing.
