Check it on a second computer- if the problem still remains, the drive may be bad, see if you can get it exchanged.

Has the drive been dropped or otherwise mishandled? External drives are susceptible to this kind of failure- they are delicate mechanims, and must be handled appropriately.

External HDD no longer recognized by new win7 PC

Probably not the right answer for your problem. Mine is an external 1 TB Simple Drive. Mine wouldn't respond at all. I unplugged the power cable from the back of the hard drive and replugged it in and instantly it worked. I had tried rebooting the computer, plugging/unplugging over and over into the computer and that didn't work.

Can't open Maxtor one touch 4 mini

If the external hard disks is plugged to a USB port and is not detected anymore, try uninstalling the USB Root Hub devices in the device manager. They will automatically be reinstalled on reboot and that can help fix detection issues.

But did you look in the Disk Management module of Windows to see if the disk is there? Right-click My Computer and select Manage.

Maxtor one touch 4 mini suddenly not recognised by any PC

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you are describing a hard disk failure.

Maxtor, Hitachi and IBM disks have unusually high failure rates. I have replaced hundreds of these disks.

I recommend replacing with a Seagate or Western Digital disk.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Hello, I was accessing data on my Maxtor One Touch II when it froze suddenly. Couldn't access data anymore and not even close programme. I shut down the computer and when I now plugg it in, the computer...

I had this same thing happen to mine. I took the drive out and hooked it up directly to my computer. It was gone and there was no hope for it.If you can do this, it is what I would suggest. They have generic drives in them that will fit most any computer cables. When I did it, my computer would not find it. Those drives, I found out, were notorious for this. Hope this helps.

Maxtor one touch 4 mini makes chirping sounds while trying to link up with the computer , does this for aprox a minute then stops , the conmputer dosnt see the drive.

Usualy this thing happens with my WD Elements drive when the cable is not connected properly or some dust went on the connector, try using a paintbrush and get rid of the dust, sometimes the usb cable's end is corrodated and that's why id doesn't work properly anymore, sometimes it connects and a bit later suddenly it dissapears, this case try another cable. And also a good idea to try out the drive on a different USB port.
If none of these works, try it on a different computer and see what happens there, if it's not working over there with any of these tricks than it's time to bring it back to the shop and use your warranty to get a new one.

No function

Check with Maxtor and see if this is covered under warranty. It should be.

MAXTOR ONE TOUCH 4 MINI

Try it in another computer if you have one. Or...try it in another USB port on your desktop PC. I would see if it appears in the device manager. If so, and you don't get a drive letter, try running
'diskmgmt.msc' and looking to see if the drive pops up under available drives.

Maxtor One Touch II not working

I know it's too late but, did you try resetting the hard drive. Insert a pin through the little hole on the back of the drive.
