Halfords. You really need a genuine charger for this unit.
If you connect a standard charger from you 'poundshop' it will be a normal 500milliamp 5v charger.
Connect this and your device will think you just plugged it into a pc for updates. The unit uses a 1.5amp 5v charger to charge and run and anything with less power is seen as a pc
I have many times repaired small electronics with this problem by checking the solder connections from the power jack to the circuit board.(I am self taught, not an expert)Anything that plugs in to the device can easily break the connections to the board.Electronic manufacturers do this construction technique to save space, but I would rather have the jacks connected to the board with short pieces of wire.(I recently scored a Magellan GPS in the dumpster at work-someone pitched it WITH THE CAR CHARGER because of the same problem)It took me longer to figure out how to get the case open than it did to fix it!
The chargers you are using. Are they Motorola Original parts or from another manufacturer?
Definitely
odd that it works with the USB charger but not the wall or car
chargers. Can you take it into an at&t corporate store and have them
try one of their chargers in the phone. This way we can eliminate if it
could be the chargers. Could be something with the charging port on the
phone though there is a hole in that theory as the USB charger works.
If you take the battery door off your phone you should see a little white or pink/red paper circle. Which color is it?
I have the exact same problem as yours for the last couple days, and FINALLY IT IS CHARGED last night using the USB data connection cable. I don't know the exact problem with other chargers, including car and regular outlet chargers, but it works with the USB connection from a computer. GOOD LUCK!!!
I had an old Motorola V3, which used to show me that error.
It could result if the charger is not firmly connected to the phone. To diagnose this, try borrowing someone's moto charger.
It's also possible that battery contacts could have dust. Try dusting them off so that they're nice and shinny as usual.
Finally, try removing the battery for a few minutes, reinsert and charge, leave the phone off when you charge.
The phone usually starts working after the regimen. If the problem persists, you'd know which method worked and what failed, so you can press for a warranty.
Cheers
No the device is not defective. magellan has this stupid usb interface problem preventing the unit from being charged and used at the same time, they do that so you have to use there charger. the unit will say usb connected and will not boot up like normal at all. unit will be locked up until the usb is unplugged. most usb devices charge at 5v with 500mA, and the magellan requires 5v 1A. Ipod Charger charges at the 1A with 5v but wont work
