CausesThese errors display because the lens will not move. There are several reasons why the camera lens might not move:

  • something is blocking the lens
  • the firmware version is old
  • the camera has been abused
  • foreign material is inside the lensor
  • the lens is loose or completely off the track
SolutionFollow all of the steps listed below.
  1. Perform a power reset on the camera.
    1. Turn off the camera and remove any optional memory card.
    2. Hold the ON/OFF switch in the ON position until the HP logo displays and then disappears.
    3. The camera is now reset. When the camera is turned back on it should prompt for the date and time.
  2. If the camera does not display an error after the reset and appears to be functioning properly, it is imperative to check and update the firmware. The firmware update corrects the lens positioning issue that can cause E104, E105, and E106 errors with the camera.Determine if an update is needed by following the steps below to check the current version of the firmware on the camera:
    1. Before turning the camera on, press and hold the Flash button.
    2. While the Flash button is depressed, turn on the camera. A Service Screen displays.
    3. Located at the bottom of the screen is an entry, F/W.
    4. If the version of the firmware is lower than 1.12, then the firmware update is required and should be performed immediately.

What size memory card do I need for the 735 camera?

The 735 uses MMC and SD cards. Both types are limited to 2GB maximum. Be careful not to use SDHC cards. While they will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and won't work.

Frozen Open

I hate to post without offering a solution and while checking for a possible error code list for the camera, I ran across this:

http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/hp-photosmart-735_product-reviews.html?reviewsPage=1

HP once made great test instruments under that name but the average quality of stuff related to computers or digital technology has been mixed at best and often, outright atrocious.
I don't service HP computers at all any more; along with their poor quality, another item that once was among the best, service support has also plummeted.

Camera not taking pictures

Sounds as if there is damage to either the lens or the lens focusing mechanism.
