Error 542 I saw your solution on the site here and I can't find any online or escape buttons on the printer... At least none that are labeled that way

You need to switch the power switch off.
Hold down either the online & escape or stop/start & escape while switching the machine on.
The machine should start up in service mode.
Select 1 for service mode
Select 5 for mode
Scroll to 810 SC reset and select enter
Select execute.
Switch machine off and on again.

542 is usually a fuser error. Thermistors. You should give your local Ricoh agent a call let a technician come and fix thermistors with new ones.

Check that you are using the correct escape characters.
in printerparameter check that you are on auto
else check in the driver you are using esc LF Nul or {'} characters.
last if in serial mode check the communication parameters
default 9600,n,8,1 (no partity 1 stop bit, 8 data bits)

SC 542 Heat roller warm-up error and for that you will need a technician since the machine may need some part replacement .

There is usually a setting in your label software or printer driver that lets you choose between thermal transfer printing or direct thermal printing. Make sure your setting is on direct thermal.

Here is a way to reset but make sure you follow the instructions correctly.
turn off machine
press online and escape buttons together whilst turning on machine,
when display comes up wait till three options are listed, use arrow button down to select engine, use arrow right to select mode(5.mode) and ok, left arrow to 5.810 SC RESET. OK. PRESS OK AGAIN AND THEN EXECUTE AT BOTTOM OF SCREEN.
Turn off printer and wait ten secs then turn back on.
If only temp error this should reset and start up again, Good luck

This is a 'fuser" warm up error. You could have a blown out heater lamp, or fuse, but most often this is caused by a power fluctuation. The reset for this is done by simply entering the service mode, and turning the machine of/on with the main power (red button).
enter service mode as follows:
"Clear Modes"
" 1, 0, 7 "
then hold "Clear/Stop" for 2-3 seconds.
The display will change with "service mode" in the top corner.
Now turn power off/ on (red switch)
** Never go further into the service mode, as you can cause all kinds of difficulty.
If the code comes back, then you will have to get a technician on site to troubleshoot the fuser.

Um.. I don't see an "online" or "escape" button anywhere on the printer...

sc 542 is when the machine cant warm up to temperature for whatever reason usually entering service mode via clear 107 clear stop and rebooting clears the code if that dosnt work then the next step is call a service engineer

Use up and down arrow keys to select SP2 Press Enter Use up and down arror to locate SP5 Press Enter Use up and down arrow keys to select 810 Press Enter Confirm the selection Power off and on. The error code is now cleared.
