Got to MSI on line. Download the updates for all motherboard components and reinstall them. Not the BIOS, they are ok.
Go to Microsoft on line, download the current updates for the operating system and device drivers.
Go to Tweaking.com and download FREE windows repair. Now run Tweaking and although it takes time, this program helps make adjustments for you in the SAFE MODE.
See if that gets you on tract.

Cannot detect ide1 and ide2 even bios setting set to auto

Many times this problem is due to incorrect cable connections. Check your manual for correct cable connections of devices to IDE1 and IDE2. More than one drive may be connected to each cable but master devices for each channel must be connected in a certain manner on each cable.

Dell2 2400 BIOS F2 reads backwords.

It sounds like you may have the IDE cables hooked up backwards on your motherboard.. The IDE cable slot on the motherboard labled IDE1 should be where your Hard drives are if you want them to read as primary. The Optical drives are usually on IDE2, designating them as secondary.
Let me know if you need more help.

HDD Installation

Hi gravni,
The bios (MUST see the drive). If the bios does not see the drive neither will windows!
The down below port (as you mentioned) is for IDE devices. IDE1 by name. Use your ATA IDE port for the slower IDE drives or cd-rom drives. (This board does not have a second IDE port).
If the WD drive is a SATA drive connect it to the SATA 2 port. See your manual. Go to page 1-4.
As show in this pic below.

2711d19.jpg Is the WD 500Gb drive SATA or IDE?
It's suggested when adding a new drive into a working system, the user should setup the drive by using the manufactures guide. Click on this link & download WD's pdf file:
http://www.wdc.com/en/library/sata/2079-001042.pdf
You mentioned the drive is hot. This only means it is running.
Include in this post the model number of your WD drive? So I can check the specs.

Ah, ok. According to the manual, on page 1-23...here's what you need to do.

According to this page, you need to set onboard ide operate mode to "Enchanced Mode", and Enchanged mode support on to "Sata".

Cone of HDRW720 Hard Disk

In order to use this software you need motherboard with two IDE ports.
You have to use both primary IDE ports, HD must be single mode...
IDE1 Primary - Your HD
IDE1 Secondary - Don't use it
IDE2 Primary - Your HD
IDE2 Secondary - Don't use it
Because it was so long ago I don't remember exact details, and it takes time to reconfigure PC...
But if need help let me know, and I will get you step by step instructions...

Drive cable connection

Its easy to connect. Try the followings:

1) See the IDE0 port on your mother board and make connection for your hardisk to this port.

2) See the IDE1 port on your mother board and make connection for your CD-ROM to this port.

3) The IDE for floppy is much smaller than IDE0 and IDE1 so you can easily figure out that port and connect your Floppy Drive to that port.

Note: If you are newbiz then keep attention when connecting the cable to the device. Please push gently and firmly. If it got set easily then you are on right way, otherwise try in other direction.

Thanks
Iqbal
