All I can see is that your charger is flashing red. There wasn't any brand mentioned. Most battery chargers flash green when in charging mode, solid green when charging is complete and flashing red when there is an issue with the battery/batteries being charged. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever (usually 200-300 charges) and perhaps this is the case with yours. Also, if you are using imported batteries (China), that would be a major red flag!
funny thing with batteries is that they can get a memory = sounds stupid yes = if a battery is recharged when it has half charge and then fully charged it remembers the point , one it gains memory it wont charge past the last point = or the battery life is over = or the charger is faulty.
A red light indicates the charger is charging the battery, an amber light means it has switched from fast rate charging to trickle to keep the battery topped off, and green would mean the battery is completely charged. But don't be fooled waiting for green, many times the charger will only be on green for a moment before changing to amber and keeping the battery topped off.
Flashing can be a sign of a problem on some chargers.
A rapid flashing red can on some chargers indicate a bad or shorted battery, or a bad battery contact in the charger itself. If in question, try a different battery on the charger or compare with another charger to determine if the blinking is normal.
Charger flashing red indicates the battery is still not full and is in the process of recharging. Red light steady indicates your battery is fully charged and ready to operate with your Coolpix 5000. When red light is off it indicates there is no battery inserted or the charger is not pluged in.
Just about any AC to USB charger will work to recharge this unit, so if you have an iPod with the iPod wall charger, use the correct USB cable with the wall charger and you will be able to recharge the battery in the camcorder.
I had the same problem with flashing red lights. Both sides on a four battery charger. I swapped the batteries to another charger and the batteries were fine. They charged normally. I put some different batteries in the charger and the same flashing light situation. Those batteries also charged normally in a different charger. I looked closely at the back of the charger and, low and behold, "made in China". Why does that not surprise me. The bottom line, it may not be a battery issue.
Please refer to your charger user manual: but in general, this indicates that the charger has determined that one or more of your rechargeable is faulty (despite the fact that it may still hold a partial charge). Smart charger can measure the expected voltage and current flow and will prevent any 'faulty' cells to be charged (those 'faulty' rechargeable batteries may actually still be useful and charged on other less intelligent charger). Try charging them individually (if your charger can handle individual battery) or in different pair combination to locate flaw cell. Hope it helps.
I had the same problem. 1 of four way's can fix it. #1 Put a batt. that has a little charge in that flashing spot 1st. and see if that works. #2 put the batt. in that flashing slot first and then in the 1st slot, If that did'nt work, #3 Put Batt. in backwards for 1 sec. in and out fast. and I do say very fast, In that flashing spot. #4 buy a new one. The one that fixed mine was #1 and it stoppppped flashing, The order I put them in was - 3-1-2-4 I put in #3 batt. first, it was the one flashing And it worked, You may have a bad batt. or it's on it's way out, but try It. worked for me!
