If the vacuum switch did not pull in first look to make sure there are no restrictions in the vent pipe if the vent pipe is real long try disconnecting it from the furnace then try to run the furnace again. If that's not it take the rubber hose loose from the combustion blower and **** on it see if the switch itself is bad. If the vent is cleaned out and the vacuum switch sucks in with little effort then your combustion blower in not pulling the proper CFM (cubic feet per minute) and needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: the light indicator says that

The combustion air switch is closed by the air pressure from the draft inducer fan. You can check it with a voltmeter. When the heater starts to run check the voltage reading where two wires connect to the switch. It should be 0 vac if the switch is closed. Instead of starting the furnace, you could also remove one end of the rubber hose that goes to it from the draft motor and blow into the hose and see if that closes the switch. It may be just stuck. I almost forgot to mention the most important thing; make sure the draft motor is running. Let me know what you find. The air pressure switch is a safety feature to prevent the furnace from running if there isn't enough air supplied to the burner for proper combustion.

SOURCE: combustion air switch failed to

The combustion fan commonly known in the HVAC world as the Draft Inducer has a tube between the fan and the proving switch. The SUCTION from the fan is what causes the switch to trip and verify to the main board the inducer is up and going. Take that rubber hose off and check for obstructions between the two components. This video show basic furnace operation:

SOURCE: flash code indicates that the combustion air

First, make sure that the draft inducer motor is running. Then check all tubing inside your furnace and ensure there are no kinks, moisture buildup, or cracks.......repair as necessary. Also make sure there are no blockages in your exhaust pipe.

If, after doing these three items, you continue to have a problem, let us know and we'll dig a little deeper. But 99% of the time, your problem is in one of these three areas. :-)

I hope you find this to be very helpful. :-)

I have a coleman/evcon model DGAT070bdf I have the thermostat set at 74 but furnace is shutting off at about 64 degrees I did notice that the mother board's green led light is blinking 4 times.

Steady light on - normal operation.
One flash - ignition failure.
Two flashes - combustion air switch stuck closed.
Three flashes - combustion air switch failed to close.
Four flashes - limit switch open.
Five flashes - gas valve energized with no call for heat.
Rapid flashing - reversed polarity.

Note: Color of light is green.

Trying to light the coleman furnace and error flashes says "Combustion air switch failed to close. Have turned circut breaker off and tried to start it several times. Cannot even get it to light.

Make sure both the exhaust vent and the air intake vent is clear of any obstruction. If the pipes do not pitch back toward furnace, they may have water in them blocking the flow of air. Also check the condensate drain and pump for blockage.

Turning heater on : combustion air switch failed to close?

This air switch proves that the inducer motor is running and moving air. If not, check to make sure that the inducer motor starts and that the flue is free of restrictions.....eg. bird nest, ice/snow, or some other critter that found a new home.

Heater flashes 3 times says it means combustion switch failed to close

Combustion switch is your vent safety.. Check your vents outside for blockage, sometimes the intake pipe will freeze or frost up not allowing the preassure switch(vent safety)to close. putting furnace into a lock out.. you can reset the furnace by turning the power on and off.. if there is no power switch just remove the bottom door and reinstall...

Furnace shuts off

Defective combustion air switch. The 3 blinks are an error code. You didn't say, but I'm guessing you have a Coleman Evcon. They had alot of defective Combustion air switches. Your specialists were not that.
