Recovery Disk can not recover system

My friend has a Toshiba Satellite A 105 - S4114 notebook computer that stopped working. The computer would not boot completely and reported that the hal.dll file was missing. I attempted to use the system recovery disks to reset everything to the factory loaded configuration but on Disk 2 of 2 the system kicked out and reported recovery error 10F8060017. any ideas?

It could be a hard drive crash. Can you refort the hard drive and see if you get any errors.

Check to see if you have any scratched on the CD.

I want to recover my computer to factory settings

As soon as you press the power button on your notebook, Keep tapping F8 repeatedly. Another screen should pop up with a list of commands (safe mode / start up repair etc) Near the bottom of the list you should see an option to ReInstall windows / Reset to factory Default. Select which one you prefer and follow the simple instructions.

Hope this helps and please rate thanks.

How to restore toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 laptop to "out of box" state? I dont have any disks for my laptop, too.

Is there an application on your system that lets you "burn" a set of CD/DVD "System Restore" disks?

Is there a "hidden" System Recovery partition on your disk-drive?

Can you contact Toshiba, and order a set of "System Restore" disks?

Keystroke to recover my satpro l300

try this one first:
  • press F8 while notebook powering up
  • choose repair my computer
  • choose Toshiba recovery
if that will not work and since you have the disk, you don't need special combination keys to press. just boot to the disk by changing the boot sequence on your BIOS or in some cases, pressing F12.

I cant fint my system recover drive, i want to reinstall visat on it, its toshibe satellite A135-S4427 please help

Most Toshiba computers do _NOT_ come with a set of "System Recovery" disks.

Instead, there is a program installed on the computer that you use to write your own set of CD/DVD diskettes, using your "blank" disks and your CD/DVD burner. Run the program to create a set of disks.

Or, when you restart your computer, look for displayed text like "press Fnn to start System Recovery". Press the named key.

Getting grey screen with wrong machine

Create a bootable DOS disk and place it in the drive. Then restart the system. that should get you to a DOS prompt. At the DOS prompt you can tell it to change to the D: drive. You can tell if you have done this right because you will see a D: as part of the prompt. Insert recovery disk 1. If it does not start reading the disk type DIR at the D drive prompt. That will list all the files on the D: Drive. There should be one called autostart or install. Type in the name of the file including the extension. Hit enter.

A second approach is to hit F12 during start up and drop down to the second item and hit enter. That started the Toshiba recovery disk for me once when it would not read it automatically at start up.
