I have a Whirlpool Duet Dryer (Model EW9200LL1) that is about five years old. It is getting increasingly noise when drying--sounds like a belt or bearing issue. Is this something I can troubleshoot/repair myself, or do I need to call a technician?

The control board is failing... I would use it until it will not dry clothes at all, then get it rebuilt for a fraction of what a new control costs. CoreCentric Solutions Reverse Logistics Core Collection and Recovery...
This place rebuilds controls and offers a one year warranty for about 130 bucks
The rubber belt is worn and slipping under load. (like a fan belt)
There could also be something caught in the belt or pulleys; clear it out and it should work.
If worn, replace belt soon...
The drum may to be removed to install the new felt gasket but the old drum can then be reinstalled. The felt gasket seals the joint where the drum rotates at the inside back panel. It is likely that the inside back panel can be removed when the dryer is placed front-down and the outside back panel is removed. In that case the drum does not have to come out.
