Over exposure when zooming

Did you try another battery? This one is probably old and doesn't hold charge.

If you zoom in then press the shutter down halfway. If you zoom with the shutter pressed half way you can get an over exposed image.

Without knowing the model of your Coolpix I can't give you a definite answer, but on most of them you press the T end of the zoom button to reduce the number of thumbnails and then to zoom in on a selected picture. The W end of the zoom button goes the other way.

Most digital cameras jams are the cost of lens problems while zooming, with Nikon Coolpix S4000, simply use your fingers carefully pulling on the lens while turning the camera on. this can be done by getting your fingernail under the lens opening and gently pull.

Hi, Check... I think they have some software/firmware upgrades out to help that problem...

Depends on the zoom length. If you check exposure at zoom 18 mm then zoom to (lets say) 100 for the final picture the flash will zoom concentrating the flash power as well; the flash gets stronger. This is all explained in the SB-800 manual. On a zoom such as the 18-200 the more you zoom the smaller the f/stop. You are better off with a zoom that maintains its f/stop through the entire zoom range. That way when you check exposure at 18 mm lets say f/2.8 then zoom in it will maintain the same f/stop. Myself I am not a big fan of zooms especially ones when zoomed change to a smaller f/stop.

Two things to check...ISO (should be auto ISO or a setting between 100-400) and Exposure Compensation (should be set to "0")

User Manual can not be found up to now. Very soon will be available.

I now have the exact same issue. When not zoomed or fully zoomed the exposure is correct, however when partially zoomed the aperture does not engage and stays fully open. So basically I cannot really use the zoom or the picture is over exposed. Note - actually about 2/3 mechanical zoom and on works, so I can use a bit of the zoom.

Suggestions?

Nothing to fix - this is a major switch problem Contact Nikon technical support team for advice but I fear it is new camera time
