Question about Nikon Coolpix 4300 Digital Camera

Over exposure when zooming

When I zoom in with my Nikon Coolpix 4300, the F stop goes up to 4 (and change) and the shot is over exposed.  Widening back out solves the problem (but I'd really like to be able to zoom in, that being the point of optical zoom).  Any ideas as to what's wrong?  I've tried different ISOs, resetting everything to default, nothing has helped.  Is this something that can be repaired?

Yep, nothing seemed to help.  It only seems to be a problem in natural light (i.e. outdoors on a sunny day). If I use a flash inside, the F stop still goes way up, but the exposure lighting seems fine.

well its like a usual output of point and shoot cameras, like what i
have for outdoors, if i zoom it up to the digital limit after the
optical, i get blurry images, not just by over exposure but also loose
focus. mine even has image stabilizer but i sometimes get the same
result specially if i dont wait for the auto-focus to trigger the

Tried this one earlier DCboo, placed the camera on a tripod then set it to half full digital zoom on auto focus (tried 4000 also), then set it to a 10 second delay facing a mountain range, its pretty clear compared to setting it to full digital zoom, seems to me that the image stabilizer on both our cameras have the same effect on digital zooms.

If you want to be able to use optical zoom try getting a more advanced camera because cameras like Nikon Coolpix 4300 does`nt have quality zoom its very poor and you can see it yourself the images gets blurry when maximize your zoom.

Why does my Coolpix overexpose images when zoomed in?

If you zoom in then press the shutter down halfway. If you zoom with the shutter pressed half way you can get an over exposed image.

It is time to replace that camera. If the sensor is bad it will not take pictures, if the play back does not work it will take picture but no show. If you camera wont do either than it is too far gone for repair and should be replaced.

Battery problem

I find that the Nikon 4300 really burns through the batteries when the camera is set to use red-eye correction. This triggers three or so flashes for each picture. I think I get more than 30 red-eye corrected flash pictures on a set of batteries, but probably no more than 50. Taking outdoor shots w/o flash naturally is kinder on the batteries.
