The Blu Ray Laser is wearing out. This is a common issue among the newer video game consoles. The laser is constantly lighting up to read the discs while you are playing your Playstation 3 whether you are playing games, Blu Ray movies, or DVD movies. Eventually the laser will burn out. As it starts to wear out, first the games or movies will freeze. After a while, it will not read Blu Ray at all. Finally it will quit reading anything. You can find lasers at the following website starting at $49.95. The same website also performs repairs of the Playstation 3 console:
I thought I should pass thing tip along, seeing as how so many people are having trouble.
It is a solution for PS3 fat models (the old ones). If your PS3 has suddenly stopped reading disc's it might not be the laser, it could just be a type of data corruption, but there is a way around it.
Go onto the PlayStation Network and download any game demo. Install the demo. Insert the game you want to play. Now go into the demo game that you downloaded and installed as if you were going to play it. As soon as it loads, quit out of the demo and go back to the main menu of your PS3; the game you wanted to play should now be available. ENJOY!
If this tip doesn't work then sorry, it is your blu-ray laser, however, it has worked for myself and one other that I know of. Hope it works for you too!
Hi, Follow these steps when you are facing "disc wont read" problem Step 1:Remove the disc from the system. Step 2:Use a cloth to clean in small circles around the disc (not in a big circle going around the disc). Use DVD or CD disc cleaner if available. If you use cleaner, use a different dry cloth to clean the disc no more than three minutes after application. Step 3:Verify that there are no disc-destroying marks on the disc. Deep scratches and chips in the middle of the disc can render a disc inoperable. As your Playstation 3 is used more and more, the lens that reads Blue-ray discs can become dirty. This will lead to discs skipping or not being read by the console. If you find this is happening on your Blue-ray discs, either movies or games, you may need to have your console cleaned. Be careful when attempting any sort of cleaning of your console, as improper handling will further damage the Playstation 3. Contact a member of Playstation Support for information on console maintenance. Thank you !!

your bluray laser has a 2mode light one at 450nm and the other at 720nm wavelengths. the 450nm pulse is not working therfore no bluray disc or game can be read. very common. change the laser with sony for 150+tax or i can fix it for 100
hi my sony PS3 playstation console won't load any games or read them; i ahve hardly played the console and only had it 10 months. PLEASE IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS TO FIX THE CONSOLE PLEASE ADVISE URGENTLY AS I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO; I AM STUCK!!
I would be careful about cleaning your lens because Sony has been known to void any warranty you have when cleaning because of not using "sony products". I to have the same problem but mine came up disc read error only after a month and i cant play anything either? even thoguh I dont have a solution I just offer a warning about cleaning it.
