I have receintly bought a dlink wireless notebook adapter so i could set up my wireless wifi network at home to connect my compaq presario 900 to from a PC. I have installed everything and im getting a strong connection but no internet access. Help its frustrating me now

Your laptop doesn't come with a wifi adapter. Buy a USB wifi adapter.
If you're still using Win ME get rid of it. Try XP or Win 7. Get the most RAM installed that you can.

While logged into the router, Turn on "broadcast ssid" or tell your computer exactly what the SSID is. One form of security is to set the router not to tell other computers in wifi range what the ssid is.

Your Compaq V2000 has an Intel Pro Wireless 2200 BG wireles adapter. (doesn't support N, but that's not the point I think)

If your new network configuration is based on WPA/WPA2 encyption, this adapter has some known problems to establish a connection. It works great with WEP, but not so well with WPA.
Sometimes the issue can be solved by installing the latest versions of drivers and software for the wireless adapter.
If it still doesn't work, a known workaround is to disable via device manager all other network adapters in the computer (ethernet adapter), leaving active only the Intel Pro 2200 wireless adapter.

ok first prep. we need to configure your router. to do that we need your compaq laptop directly connected to the dlink via ethernet cable. after securing the connection, try to open a browser, whether internet explorer or mozilla firefox. go to the address bar and type in, 192.168.1.1 it would ask you now for a username. username is " admin " password is " password " if it wont let you in, try "admin" for password. if it still cant, try to live it blank and just click on login. it would take you now to the dlink router page. there you can configure your wireless connection and set your network name. make sure to click apply settings after configuring it. then try to check your wireless connectivity again. this should work.

The USB port in your computer is not the new high-speed USB 2.0 version, and when you plug a USB 2.0 device in you will get that message. Most USB devices will still work but not give best performance. Just close the message window.

The network cable unplugged message can be disabled through the network settings. Normally Windows is set to display that message when there is no network cable connected. You can just ignore the message.

Your network profile is damage create a new one, once the profile get corrupted it will never allow to connect to any outside networks due to security measure.
