Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Kenmore dryer dwsr-ele-2406026-cv54 that is not drying. 2 months ago it stopped drying on the Timed setting but worked on the autosensing setting Now no heat on the autosensing setting either.

If it is a mechanical timer, replace the timer. The switches in some of these are nothing more than copper traces on a piece of circuit board with a copper wiper that moves over them. The friction eventually wears out these copper traces. This would be one explanation for the heat to work on one setting but not another. If it is a digital electronic timer, I would replace the control board. Good luck.

Maytag dryer temperature fluctuates. replaced the thermal fuse 2 weeks ago. this fixed the problem but the dryer now gets a lot hotter and cooler than before. all the clothing is coming out wrinkled.

change the cycling thermostat and when was the last time you cleaned out the dryer and vent line?if it's gas it should be done at least once a year electric every 16 to 20 months because you don't have an open flame in there like a gas dryer but you either have bad air movement or the cycling t-stat is bad and if you had to change out the thermal fuse is a definite sign of this,if your clothes have been taking longer to dry you have a block somewhere, you can try removing the vent line from the back of dryer and run it to see if it helps and check the duct that the lint filter slides down into for lint buildup, all a dryer does is spin, heat and move air if it's blocked it will pop the thermal fuse.

Have a whirlpool dryer type dwsr ele 2406026-cv54 / mod wed4900xvo , we get a burning smell on all items

  1. Ok, bare with me...
Is there any visible SMOKE with the smell? If so turn it off and call a repairman.
  2. Verify that the clothes drum is turning freely. If it is not, call a repairman.

  3. Otherwise;
I recommend removing all clothing from your dryer and to carefully follow these instructions.
  4. With the machine off, Clean the dryer filter well. Set dryer to the MAXIMUM heat setting on a 30 min TIMED cycle.
  5. Start the cycle.
  6. Make close observations in short intervals of time.
  7. At the end of your timed cycle determine if the smell has changed more or less.
  8. With the dryer off, Locate the electrical socket/plug of the device if it is an electric machine. place your hand on it to determine it's temperature. It should be no more than Luke-warm to touch.
  9. If it is uncomfortably warm to touch you should consider contacting an electrician to determine the working load of the wiring to the device.
  10. If the wiring/plug test is deemed adequately cool, ventilate the dyer area well for an hour and repeat steps 3-7, the hot - empty test again. The smell should diminish.

Lint and other clothes debris can get pulled into contact with the dryer's heating element and it will burn or smolder. If a piece of elastic rubber gets into contact with the heating element, the smell will be strong and may last a long time.
If it is still bothersome after the burn-out procedure, it will have to be taken apart and at least cleaned or the element replaced. This is not usually covered by warranty as it is considered a USER PROBLEM. Sorry.

Dryer stopped working

Look for an issue with the door switch. It could have even become unplugged, but these are generally good captive connectors.

repairs should be performed by an authorized repair person. the heating element coil may be broken and grounding itself the the module housing. if so replace the heating element.
