Makita 6935FD has lost all torque. The drill varies speeds when not under load, but won't drive a screw. The battery is charged. If I get the trigger in just the right place the drill will hammer once, but then it stops. This has been a great drill. What is the most common problem?

Remove the brush caps and have a look at the brush length.
If they are extremely short, or barely touching the commutator bars on the armature, you will need to purchase a brush set part # (193466-2). The way you are describing it behaving without a load, and charged battery, I can only assume this will fix it. The other thing you can do is open the clamshell housing and with a pick, attempt to move the armature fan and see if it will make several full rotations. I want to know if a piece of the magnet ring broke loose and is rolling around between the armature and the magnet ring causing your varying RPM.

Makita 6935fd doesnt go into impact mode, just stops like a normal screwdriver. Both batteries tested 15 plus volts. any answeres?

could be a problem with the impact hammer, I would suggest removing the front housing to make sure not sticking or hung up on the anvil. Make note of how you remove the gear housing to you can reassemble. Also you might want to go to makitausa.com first and download a breakdown for the tool

I have a Makita #6347d, when I have been using the drill I had some smoke from the battery connection to the drill and the housing of the drill had some smell of smoke. Whats up? Thanks, Bill

Check what gear you in, the Makita will smoke if you exert to much torque, consider buying a decent impact driver? If its not under much pressure then it may be a fault with the drill. I have owned one and it was reliable but sometimes under-powered for an 18volt compared with others on the market.
Hope this helps

No torque when using driver

Sounds like the battery never fully charged and lost all capacity to do so. You can get on ebay and get one or find an interstate battery distributor. Sears.com also has access to these batteries.

My makita drill is weak/ has no power. I checked the 14.4 volt battery with a voltmeter, and it is fully charged, and the brushes are still good as well. Is the motor bad? Any idea what could be wrong with...

did you check the battery under a load condition?as in check the voltage under drill operation, most batteries will check their normal top charge voltage when not being used, this is known as a surface charge, but under load the voltage may severly drop leading to burned or overheated armatures, have it load tested

Disassemble , houseing makita Model 6935FD Cordless

I would recommend going to Makitatools.com and typing in your model number for a schematic. Basically all you have to do is remove the 4 screws on the front holding the gearcase and then remove all the other screws holding the handle halves together. Let me know if I can help

Battery has gone Dead

Batteries are definitely still available. I haven't priced one recently, but if you do a google search for 7.2v Makita batteries, you'll find what you're looking for.
On the other hand, for the price of a couple of batteries for that drill, you're well on your way to a new drill and batteries. Nowadays, with lithium ion battery technology and major advances in the drill motors, you'll find a new drill has a lot more torque and holds a longer charge. They also put lights in the front, which are very cool when you're under a sink in the dark trying to screw something in. It depends, I guess, how much you use it, and what for. Do you want to be able to drive 3" screws into framing lumber without a pilot hole? Maybe not.
There are times when I use my 12v impact driver all day and can't imagine trying to make do with my old 9.6 v drill, but I still keep it at home, for just in case. And makita is still tops in my book.
BTW, here's a link to a downloadable .pdf manual for your tool. Makita 6019DWE

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
