The 214T flickers for a few seconds and then goes black. Most of the time, after one hour or so, it will light up and stay up. During this time I am constantly turning the monitor on and off from the front control panel.

Flashing or flickering is a common indication of failing capacitors in the power supply board. The fix is very simple and just requires replacing 5 capacitors on the board. The flickering problem you have is caused by a failing power supply. There are parts called capacitors that are failing and causing the power supply board to put out pulsing voltages until it can stabilize.
