Ya it sounds like your video Card is dying, though you can check with different RAM and try some normal games which don't need high Graphic. You have PCI Graphic card fitted on it then try removing and playing the game, then this way you can know what is the fault.

try to check the following:
overheating - make sure its well-ventilated and the card cooling system works
windows display settings - look for anything that might have something to do with your screen going dark
windows power option - set to high performance
graphics driver settings - use default settings

A codec would be for sound but, in order to know which one you need, more info is necessary. Please provide the make and model of your computer, what version of Windows you are running, if you have a video or graphics card, make and model of that and, do you know what sound software you have?

1. check your display settings for the best possible screen resolution for your laptop.
2. the new CPU that is installed is defaulted at 1080p resolution and is to strong for the video graphics card that is on the mother board which is possibly 1280X740 . Being a laptop and the video graphics is built into the mother board therefore possibly not compatible with the new processor.

Please visit below URl and download display drivers from "Video" section. If your computer having intel graphic card then please download intel driver or if your computer is having ATI graphic card then please download ATI driver

After downloading the driver install and reboot your system once.

This might fix your resolution problem.

If that doesn't help, here's a workaround that seems to help in some cases:
"Yea I have the blank screen too for my averatec 3200, but there's an easy work around
for some reason it default goes to the monitor port instead of the screen
all you do is press function screen( Fn F5) twice and you can see again. Whenever you see the blank screen pop up just change."

You might also google 'blank screen at logon' and check for other options, such as here.
If you get windows up, try this:
Run chkdsk c: /f or /r according to these instrucitons & these. (you can also run this from the recovery console or cd).
This could be the result of a driver conflict or issue. Run windows update and check for graphics updates, or follow these instructions to update your graphics/video drivers.
There's also the possibility that the problem is malware related, in which case try to follow these instructions.

Hii, you can download all the driver of your Intel motherboard from
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx?iid=gg_work+home_dowloads# . Go this site and at the left hand side, go to the desktop board and select your exact motherboard model. After selecting the model you just download the driver as per your requirement and install it.

You may not have sufficient video RAM.
You may be able to increase the size of the video RAM from the BIOS setting.
If this doesn't work then the video card cannot handle the games graphics and there is no way you can upgrade/change the graphics card as it is part of the motherboard.
If you want to play realistic graphics/high resolution games, then get a desktop computer, you can configure/setup these computers with greater computer power, memory and high performance graphics cards.

uninstall ALL video drivers reboot computer should reboot with standard windows video drivers does the screen still play up if so you may have faulty video card.let me know please
