Your GPS transceiver(Transmitter/reciever) is not working. It is either obstructed by a metal plate or any part of your vehicle or the cone where the signal is detected is disconnected from the circuit board.Try relocating the unit to where there is no obstruction(any metal). If this does not work it needs servicing. The transceiver is usually located on the middle top side of the unit.It is the antenna where the GPS satellite signal is recieved.

It keeps saying we are in new york but we are in tennessee when it hit 2011 it wont work anymore it keeps saying waiting for a valid gps signal

You are apparently NOT receiving satellite signals, nothing will change until it connects. Be sure to give the unit unobstructed view to the sky. If it never connects, unit will need repair.

GPS is not working. It says waiting for a valid GPS signal. What can I do to fix this?

Usually, when it's waiting to get a valid GPS signal, it is "listening" (scanning) for satellite signals to establish your current location. If you are in the open outdoors, i.e. not inside a building or under extended covers, it should get the satellite signals within a minute or so.

Waiting for a valid gps signal

Not sure if this will help you or not. GPS needs a clear line of sight, tall buildings, bad spot in your car or on your dash, weather conditions and pink elephants all will interfere with the GPS signal. Keep the unit low and as far forward as you can so that it has the best chance for signal. Best position i have found is 3-4 inches above the heater vents on the dash and directly in front of you since this is the spot that is generally unobstructed by anything.
One final thing, sometimes you have to shut them down start driving then turn it on, they do sometimes lock themselves up and out of things. Don't know how or why but it does happen. See pink elephants for better results.
Hope this helps

Can't get any directions, just keeps on saying "waiting for valid GPS signal" been like this all day. Thanks. Ron

charge it up good for a few hours, preferably the usb cord to your computer, then power it on and take it outside in full view of the open sky and let it aquire the satellites (up to 30 minutes)

if that fails, let me know and we can try a reset and update.

Waiting for valid gps signal

The GPS needs at least 3 satellite signals to operate. You are probably in a bad reception area. Move around a bit and try again until you see a signal array of 3 or more!
