What is the make/model of your computer?

If this is a custom-built unit, what is the manufacturer/make/model of your motherboard?

I own a compaq presario 6450nx and I would like to upgrade it. like adding more ram and replace the cpu if its posible, what could be the suggestion?

This is info on your motherboard:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07843
Your system comes with Intel P4 2.53 GHz processor and 512MB ram. total ram could be 1GB, bt adding another 512MD stick. You have Socket 478 and processor would be up to you. The system comes with a 200w power supply so, in an upgrade, you should up the power supply. You have an AGP expansoin slot and, you could upgrade to a graphics card but again, power supply is only 200w. The system as it stands is not Windows 7 compatible. If you incraesed your ram and got a graphics card, you would get better performance.

Can i upgrade the processor

you didn't mention your current processor speed. The maximum processor speed that you can install is 2.2mhz and still depending on the type of motherboard you currently have. If what you currently have right now is just a little less than that of the highest possible CPU that your board can accommodate, it's not advisable then for a CPU upgrade. Better upgrade also your board and/or just upgrade your memory for an additional speed.

Upgrade PCChips M925

According to PCChips, the maximum CPU & memory supported for all three is the Intel P4 Northwood (HT) 3.06 GHz 512K,533FSB,Socket 478 and 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 266.

Be sure you have the latest BIOS version for your motherbaord.

M925ALU (V7.3) must have BIOS : 030703s
M925G (V8.0) and M925G (V9.1b) must have BIOS : 050510s

Hope this helps you out.

Problem with upgrading processor

Sounds like the processor you're trying to upgrade to isn't the same frequency. The processor, motherboard, and memory have a matched frequency. For example; a motherboard with a frequency of say PC4200 will only accept a processor and memory of a PC4200 frequency. If you try to use PC5300 memory it basically won't do anything, blank screen, or maybe a beep. The same if you tried to use a processor with PC5300 on the PC4200 board. The best way to find the frequency rating is to look on the memory. They class the memory by frequency, but rarely ever list the frequency for the board or processor. Research the new processor to find out the memory class and then see if it matches the memory in your machine. If it doesn't then the processor won't work. If it does, then new processor may not be compatible, and that means more research.

Upgrade

In order to upgrade processors you will need a new mortherboard (if you want to use a core2duo). If your running a computer like that you will probably need a new case, memory, and an adequate power supply to run it and maybe another fan if your running a lot of stuff in there. You may need a new video card as well.

You could check at some used computer stores and see if you can upgrade your celeron processor to something faster. Compaqs are know to be trouble when you try to upgrade them.
