Can you help

My tv won't turn on, I have already replaced the ballast and the lamp. Well I checked the color wheel and it wasn't spinning when I push the power button. I checked and the color wheel is getting power.I removed the color wheel and when you spin it by hand it has a dry metal to metal sound, but it still spins freely.
Do you think the color wheel is the problem?
Thanks

Hello Brandon B
Great Job at trying to fix your own TV.....Bravo!! Ok, you may very well have a bad Color wheel. You have already change your Ballast and Lamp. The lamp would have been my first step. If you have a defective color this will surely cause the set not to come on. The DM board detects what going on with the color wheel and will not start the lamp. There are 2 types of color wheel listed for this TV.

SOURCE: I need help with my DLP TV

If you have verified the votages are there at the color wheel and its not spinning the color wheel is most likely defective. the sound you hear when spinning by hand is most likely the bearing but that shouldnt stop it from spinning. but as i said if the supply voltage is present but it still wont spin. the color wheel must be defective.

SOURCE: My DLP TV wont turn on.

As part of the power up sequence on the Samsung HLP-4336W the lamp isn't turned until timing pulses are detected from the color wheel. The color wheel motor is powered through the flat brown four conductor ribbon cable and the timing pulses are detected over the the three conductor ribbon table.

New member here. I have a 62" DLP Mitsubishi model #WD6252. I've already replaced my lamp AND ballast and continue to have the solid red lamp status indicator. I've made sure the connection from th

Your color wheel is failing or has failed. the red light ONLY means the lamp cannot light or was forced to shut down. it means nothing about the lamp or ballast specifically.

If your color wheel isnt spinning up correctly or you have a stuck fan somewhere, the lamp will be shut down immediately upon startup.

Id check to see if the color wheel is stuck or if its getting stuck.

Samsung hln617w TV Dlp lamp won't turn on already replaced lamp, ballast, color wheel

It sounds like the main power supply has a bad capacitor. its a typical issue with a lot of electronic. look on the main power board that the outlet cord comes in to the TV and check all the cylindrical components for swelling, leakage, or singe makes.

Samsung hln617w dlp tv won't turn on. Red temp

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

Lamp Light still on after replacement

First, A common mistake made is when you insert the orange ribbon cable from the Color Wheel into the DMD bd. To correctly insert the Ribbon Cable you need to look at both sides. You will see a shiny silver side and a dull black/orange side. You must insert the shiny silver side AWAY from the Color Wheel or towards the rear of the set. Now for the Ballast. When you power up the tv,Do you hear a short Buzzing sound? If you do that means that the Ballast is trying to fire up the Lamp and is working. Next, do you hear the Color Wheel spin up? If you do not then you have installed the Color Wheel incorrectly and you need to repeat the installation while making sure that you hold the rubber gasket in perfect place or else it won,t work. Chances are the gasket is in the wrong position and is binding the Glass Wheel. The Ballast is on the right side of the engine and on top of the Lamp Housing. You will see two RED High Voltage wires coming out of one end. Don't worry, there is no stored voltage in the ballast so you won't get a shock providing you have unplugged the tv from the outlet. That is the first step before you change any parts any way. Listen for the correct start sequence. With the rear backing off and the Safety Interlock Switch is being held in the up position, turn on the set. First sound you hear is a clicking which is the power on relay engageing. Then you will hear the fans turn on and then the Color Wheel spin up. Once the Color Wheel spins up and comes to full RPM then the Exciter on the Ballast will Buzz for less than half a second and then the Lamp should light up. Now if you have installed the correct Lamp and correctly installed the Color Wheel and you either are holding up the Interlock Switch or have reinstalled the rear cover and tightened all of the screws you should have a working tv.

Heard a pop and now no picture

You are on the right track for the repair of the set.
You should be able to hear the color wheel spin up as the lamp begins to glow. If it is not spinning then that is the first thing I would replace. During the power on sequence, if the color wheel is not detected as spinning, the set will turn off the lamp.

Since the lamp is firing up, I would not suspect the ballast. I would say having a spare ballast and lamp is very good idea for these televisions.

I have repaired these sets before and have ended up replacing the lamp, ballast, and color wheel all at the same time.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I need your help with my DLP TV

YOU PROBABLY NEED A DMD BOARD. THE COST OF THE BOARD IS $900 . YOU CAN GET A LIGHT ENGINE FOR $700 THAT HAS A NEW LAMP, COLOR WHEEL, BALLAST AND DMD.
WHAT A DEAL . THERE IS A $400 CORE ON IT SO YOU WILL HAVE TO SEND BACK YOUR NEW BALLAST AND LAMP TO GET THE CREDIT BACK.
WHEN I GIVE A QUOTE ON THESE SETS FOR REPAIR MOST OF THE TIME IT EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF GETTING A NEWER BETTER SET.
