I am having the same problem. I have tried reinstalling, looking for paper jams, blowing it out with canned air, and removed it from a print server network box. I downloaded the Hardware detection utility which told me it was in an error state, but does not give the discription of the state, just instructions on how to reboot the printer, which I have also done many times. Is it a dead duck and time to move on? Thanks for your help.
Have you tried a different brand of paper?. When choosing the paper try and select one which the sheets can slide easily over each other. I had loads of problems with multiple feeds and paper jams with a cheap paper. I then changed to a heavier 90gsm all in one paper from staples and have had no more problems since.(and i just chuck the paper in straight from the packet with no fanning etc)
If the printer is connected to your computer - check to see if there is a blinking Red exclamation point / printer icon in the system tray. Sometimes mousing over this icon to see the tooltip is the only way to figure out what error message the printer is trying to tell you.
For us - when this happens, the printer is complaining about an "incompatible" ink cartridge - even though 99% of the time it will print from that cartridge without problems. So try removing and re-inserting all of your ink cartridges too.
for future refs: if the paper type and size (in this case checks) is set up correctly in the software that you are using to create the checks, perhaps it would help to check the printer settings. this link at hp support might help you then:
You could try using these drivers on the Hp.com. These drivers were from March of 2007.
This was listed at Officejet K550. They didn't have a Pro Printer listed. If there are any letters after the model number you should go to that page instead.
mostly there is paper stuck in the paper feed roller at the bottom of the printer remove the paper tray and look at the roller and if paper is jammed remove from rollers and reset the printer. this should solve your problem . bye hope it does
