It means either the knob or something in the squelch circuit has gone bad. Doesn't mean that you cannot use the radio, you will just hear static all the time when no one is talking. If the static bothers you, you can always back the RF gain down a bit. That will quiet the noise, but lower you receive range. meaning you won't hear as far away.

Everything seems to be working but have no sound or squelch.

what kind of radio? It could be a number of things from a transistor to a transformer . Could also be a bad switch .Check your contacts on the squelch switch to make sure they are secure and if its a cobra or any other radio where the squelch and volume are on the same switch make sure those contacts are secure Could also be your final or driver in which I would change both.

Squelch won't turn off, won't go into power save mode

Power-save mode means the radio is being turned on and off repeatedly, to save power. The radio turns on, & if it hears any signals (i.e., if squelch circuit determines a station is being received), it turns on the speaker; else it turns off again to save power. So, squelch and power-save modes work hand-in-hand, and your problem is squelch circuit is either set too low, or a station is being received by the receiver. Download/look at the owner's manual and adjust the squelch circuit for a higher setting, and it should go into power-save mode again.
Good luck.

Cobra 29ltd CLassic, TX power and audio is ok, volume from spkr is good, squelch works but no cb recieve.

Try a new Mic. Make sure its a working mic. If you have a bad mic, the receive will not work.

I cannot hear anything from my cobra cb anymore, just makes a humming sound. not too familiar with the settings either

Turn the radio on, turn the squelch knob all the way to the left, turn volume up, flip the switch to cb,not to pa,turn rf gain to the left, flip switch to normal, turn channel to 19,make sure the antenna is connected and mike is plugged in,can you hear any talking? If not let me know for further information. hope this was very helpful..

The squelch not working on a cobra 29 wxnw st sound tracker

there are 3 or 4 horse shoe presets inside the radio i suspect that the squelch preset is needing turned up. try turning one up at a time. remember to put it back to where it was if it is not the squelch. use a plastic screwdriver do not go putting metal screwdrivers into your radio in case of shocks. hope this helps you

Squelch doesnt work

Open the component / speaker side cover on the radio, adjust VR3, this is the alignment control for the squelch. Set your squelch control knob on the front of the radio to about 10 o'clock and slowly adjust VR3 until the signal from the speaker is mute.

When you turn the squelch back to the 0 position, you should have signal with no squelch as in normal operation.

Thanks!
