We have a Ryobi P100 Battery and a P110 charge. The battery became very hot while using it and die very fast. When trying to recharge the yellow and green light come on the charger. What is going on?

Unless you are a bit clever with electronics, better off buying a new charger than trying to fix the internal circuit on it. here is some links to info ive found.
a new Ryobi 18v li charger will charge your nicad battery but a nicad charger will not charge li-ion battery.

No, the P110, 18V NiCad battery charger, will not charge a 18V lithium ion battery. You need one of the dual-chemistry chargers. If you have the Ryobi ONE+ batteries, you can get the P117 charger ($30) or a charger with an extra battery (P126) from a store like Home Depot. A 6 battery charger and a 12V in-car charger are also available.

That is true the One+ 18V Li-Ion battery packs will work in any One+ 18V Ryobi tool. However the Lithium ion batteries will not charge in the original P110 NiCd charger. You will need one of the the new series Ryobi One+ 18V "dual chemistry" chargers for that. The will charge both types of battery packs.

If you have a P100 NiCad battery, the charger for that will not charge the new Lithium Ion P103 or P104 batteries. You need a specialised Ryobi Lithium Ion battery charger like this one

No. The P110 is for NiCad batteries. Any of the Li-Ion chargers like the P113 are backwards compatible and can charge either but do not try to charge Li_ion batteries in a NiCad or NiHi charger.

Any battery left in a charger is still hooked up to a circuit. Depending on the charger this can mean a slow discharge is possible. Ryobi's Maintenance Charge Mode means the charger will 'refresh' the battery at regular intervals, usually every 30 days. A battery's lifespan is determined by how many times it is discharged/recharged so to get 'the longest possible battery life' it is desirable to reduce the number of times a battery is recharged. One way is to use the battery until it is dead or near so another is to remove the battery from the charger when it's fully charged to reduce the number of times the charger refreshes the battery.

I had the same problem, my understanding was that since the batteries are nic-cad, they have a memory so in short you are supposed to charge the batteries only when they are depleted. They have to be COMPLETELY depleted the first 3 or 4 times of use. I ended up replacing the two I had, followed this and have not had any problems since. Hope it works for you.

The battery is failing and is starting to degrade. If you can't get it to take a full charge, you might want to mark it for use in your flashlight only, but eventually, the battery won't take any charge and you'll have to replace it.

The good news is the the Ryobi battery tools have the lowest cost of rechargeable batteries in the marketplace. I believe you can purchase a 2 pack at Home Depot for under $40.00 which is very inexpensive for two (2) Ni-Cad batteries.

If you battery is from a new tool set, just simply contact Ryobi Customer Service and they'll address the problem with a replacement. If the batteries are ones you've been using for awhile, then go for the replacement.

NiCad batteries should be used until the tool slows down to the point where you can't use it. Then remove the battery from the tool and allow it to cool down for about 15-20 minutes before placing it in the charger. This will provide the maximum working life for your batteries.

When you use a battery powered tool, the battery gets warm/hot as it discharges, and then it gets heated up during the recharging process, so letting it cool down after using it, will prolong the useful life of that battery.

If you are referring to a flashing yellow light on the charging base, this is an error code. Either the 1) battery is bad, 2) not making good contact in the charger, or 3) very very low on charge. The solution for this set of problems is as follows: 1) have the company you purchased them from replace them, 2) clean your contacts with a pencil eraser, 3) leave the battery on the charger with the yellow light flashing for an hour or two. If the battery is just very low on a charge, it will come back to life and the light will change to be constant. If the battery is bad or shorted out, the light will continue to flash and you will need to get with the vendor you purchased the batteries from.

Other things which come to mind are compatibility issues such as you are using a different battery chemistry than you had before. NiCd batteries can charge on either of the two chargers available for the P110 (slow rate or fast rate). However, NiMH and Li-Ion batteries require a fast rate charger.

If you are referring to a yellow blinking light on the radio while it is in the charger. You need to shut your radio off. Radios should always be turned off when charging. If the radio is left on you will never have a full charge. Also, if you inadvertently press the PTT while the radio is turned on, while on a charger, you can cause damage to the radio.

FYI: There is no light to show "out of range" on the radio, unless you are possibly using a trunking or repeater system. A blinking light on your radio indicates the radio is turned on and/or there is traffic on your frequency. Your charger base light can be red, yellow or green. This indicates the charge cycle status. Flashing most always means some type of error.
