How do I get my HDMI ports to read 1080i instead of DVI?

The question really doesn't make sense. That's because 1080i is a signal resolution, and DVI is the connection cable that carries the signal. The two things are connected, but different.

It sounds as if your TV is searching for a signal; looking first at the HDMI input, and then the DVI input, before giving up because it found no signal.

Your next question should add some detail about the makes and models of the equipment involved and how you have them connected.

How to connect apple tv

Officially Apple does not support DVI, only HDMI. DVI does NOT carry audio signals. You may need to use an Optical Audio cable for the sound.

I NEED SONY BRAVIA T32 FULL MANUAL...how to conect to computer and camera

Hello there,

Here is the link to the full manual:
http://support.sony-asia.com.edgesuite.net/consumer/IM/4110401121.pdf

Before connecting your devices...
The signals that enter the TV and connected devices will need to be output in the correct format using the suitable connections. Below are the different types of video connectors. When connecting the TV, use the inputs that are available on your devices that provide the best video performance.
Video performance level Name Aspect Signal transmitted Separate audio connection required arrw.jpg HDMI cnn_hdmi.jpg Picture + Sound No DVI*1 cnn_dvi.jpg Picture Yes
l.jpg r.jpg
L-AUDIO-R Component video cnn_component.jpg Picture S-Video cnn_s_video.jpg Picture Composite video cnn_composite.jpg Picture RF/Coaxial cnn_coaxial.jpg Picture + Sound No
*1 If the equipment has a DVI jack and not an HDMI jack, connect the DVI jack to the HDMI IN (with HDMI-to-DVI cable and/or adapter jack), and connect the audio jack to the AUDIO IN (L/R) jacks of HDMI IN. (The DVI connector is for video signals only) To enjoy the best visual experience with your system, it is preferable to connect your best devices with the highest quality connections available. For example: your Blu-Ray Disc player or HD Set Top Box with HDMI, followed by your DVD player with Component, then your Video Cassette Recorder with S-video etc.Note: The quality of the picture also strongly depends on the quality of the cable used.
HDMI The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is an all-digital audio/video interface capable of transmitting high definition video and audio signals. HDMI provides an interface between any compatible digital audio/video source, such as a set-top box, a DVD player, a PC, a video game system, or an AV receiver and a compatible digital audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV). DVI The Digital Visual Interface is capable of transmitting high definition video, but does not transmit sound. You will need to use the audio connectors of your device (usually Optical/Coaxial digital, or RCA). It is possible to connect an HDMI device to a DVI device using a HDMI to DVI adapter. Component video Component video is an analogue connection. It is capable of transmitting high definition signals. Component does not transmit sound. You will need to use the audio connectors of your device (usually Optical/Coaxial digital, or RCA) S-Video Separate video, abbreviated S-Video and also known as Y/C is an analogue video signal that carries the video data as two separate signals (brightness and colour), unlike composite video which carries the entire set of signals in one signal line. S-Video, as most commonly implemented, carries standard definition video. It does not carry audio on the same cable. Composite video Composite video is an analogue video (no sound) format. This is the connector you should use if you do not have any other connector available, in terms of quality. RF/Coaxial RF Coaxial Cable connection is used for transferring television signals (audio and video) originating from an antenna or cable box to a Television.

How do I connect my Toshiba LCD television to my computer using hdmi

HDMI carries both "audio" and "video" signals, while DVI carries only "video" signals.

Does your computer have a HDMI-output port, or separate DVI-video and stereo-audio ports?

If the former, then one HMDI-to-HDMI cable will make all the necessary conections.

If the latter, you'll need a cable to connect "line-out" from your computer's sound-card to the left/right RCA-jacks stereo-inputs, and you'll need a DVI-to-DVI cable to transmit the "video" signals.

Can i connect a dvid cable from the monitor to my flat screen tv hdmi to watch videos from my computer? Thank you Martin

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals

What do I need to hook it up to an hdtv...what type of cables..DVI-D to HDMI?

Your laptop will need a HDMI output or a DVI output for HD video. If your laptop only has a VGA out the your tv will need a VGA or DVI input. You could use a vga to dvi adapter if your tv does not have a vga connector. They do have a DVI to HDMI adapter but there are a couple of problems with that. One you will not get the sound and the TV will only obtain sound from HDMI cable when connected that way and Two the TV will have problems processing the signal from the computer due to the HDMI will only process the HD signals at certain formats and the computer video can send out many different signals. I tried and I could not get my tv to process the signal so I got a video card that has a HDMI out and my blu-ray player works great.

No. HDMI transfers picture and sound, but DVI does not. You need a audio line as well.

Hdmi to dvi

a DVI Connection does not transmit sound, so you will need a seperate audio cable. Have you changed the settings in the ps3 and your tv's input to HD signal or 720 DPI, do not choose 1080i or 1080P as DVI does not support those high settings.
