Is this a trick question? There is no "DOS mode" on a MacBook Pro.
Do you have WIndows installed as part of Boot Camp, and your machine is booting into Windows? To boot back into the Mac, either use the Boot Camp control panel in Windows, or hold down the Option key after you hear the startup chime and select the OS X partition to boot from.

I tried to download a program and it said that it cannot because my Macbook Pro is running on DOS? I don't know anything about this stuff and hope you can help.

  • Anonymous Aug 09, 2011

I don't know what "it" is that "said" that, so I can't comment on "its" authority.

Many Windows programs have a human-readable string near the beginning of their binaries warning that those programs cannot be run in DOS mode. Perhaps you viewed this string when your file was opened by a text editor or some similar program that attempted to display its contents. The message has no applicability to a Macintosh, as they won't run in the Mac OS in any case.

How to i disable DOS mode

Hi - Is this definitely a Mac? Usually being stuck in DOS only happens with non-Macs.

If a mac, could you tell me what you're seeing on screen while in "DOS mode". for example, screen color, text color, any messages or prompts?

Thank you - I'll be on the lookout for your reply

How do I get out of DOS mode on my Macbook Pro?

The Mac does not have a DOS mode to turn off.

It does have a command line mode called 'Single User Mode' where UNIX commands can be executed. Get into SUM by holding Command S at startup.

To go back to the Mac OS X interface, type 'reboot' and press the Return key.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

There is no DOS system running on your Macintosh. Macs use UNIX, so you'll have to be more specific.
