Panasonic HDC-SD5 camcorder

I have recorded video on a DVD-R disc with the Panasonic HDC-SD5 MiniDV camcorder. I've tried to capture for editing on my PC through a couple different applications (Pinnacle Studio 8, MS Movie Maker, etc.) with no luck. How do I capture DVD-R video on a PC for editing and movie making? My camcorder does not have a firewire connection, only a USB2 port and HDMI.

Hello,
You can use RCA's coming out of the cam to a device like Dazzle which goes from your PC's USB port to RCAs. Works great. Hope this helps.

HD writer will not write to disc

I just used HDWriter today to copy a film I took from a new Panasonic HDC-HS250K to DVD. It took about 30 minutes to complete, and the movie was only 1 Gb; about 5-10 minutes of HD. I used a Memorex DVD+R that I happen to have from a couple years ago. The video looks very good played back on my PC or HD TV using a regular DVD player (not blue ray). I don't happen to have any other DVD except for the 2 sided which I hate to use for the short videos. So in looking to buy some more I'm concerned that DVD-R might not work so well. I've read some conflicting reviews about that. Anyway just wanted to let you know that the DVD+R worked fine.

Help - Capturing Video from a DVD-R Disc

I took the plunge based on manufacturers marketing claims and sales level tech support - Mistake! Panasonic VDR M50. The DVD-R disks are fairly straightforward. They can be played in my DVD video player and my PC, and I can use Fleximage DVD-to-AVI for conversion to a file format I can use for editing. The camera creates sequencial files for some reason and this software will only convert the first file. Very frustrating! I ended up playing the DVD-R on my DVD video player and using the video cable, transferred the video back to a DVD RAM disk on the camera. See DVD RAM problems below. The software that came with the camera has so far proven worthless. I have struggled with the DVD RAM disks. They are fabulous to use in shooting and editing on the camera but I cannot for the life of me get the DVD format converted off the DVD RAM. They cannot be read by my DVD video player or my DVD drive on my PC. I can see and even transfer the files to the PC through USB but for some reason, the DVD-to-AVI software will not recognize the files that were recorded and I cannot use the file format from the DVD ROM for anything other than viewing the video. Again, the software that came with the camera has so far proven worthless.
