Thumping/knocking/rattles during wash agitation cycle

My problem is a horrible noise during a wash cycle. So far, no performance problems have started, but with this bad noise, I expect problems will soon start. Only during the agitation cycle, the washer sounds like an old jalopy, thumping, rattles, knocking; which does not seem to be directly related to the actual back and forth of the wash tub (doesn't seem to match the same rythum). The sound goes away during fill, or spin.

I am about a year away from replacing the whole unit, so naturally I'd like to repair this myself rather than paying for a service call. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My washer sounds like there is a loose screw that rattles during normal agitation. On the fast speed of agitation, the noise is gone.

Mine is doing the same thing. I opened it up to see what was happening and it was the drive belt tension arm bumping around. Soon, the belt started slipping during the spin cycle. Now it won't spin and the belt starts to smolder from the friction of the drive motor. If you haven't checked your belt, that's a good place to start.

A knocking noise during agitation wash cycle

could be a bad counter balance , u can remove the front panel and run a spin or wash cycle and listen to where its coming from so u don't have to replace all the balancers. on some models theres a heavy ceramic weight at bottom that at times goes bad and throws it off balance, just run it and look where noise is coming from

Washing machine knocks and dims lights only during rinse cycle

Possible that the bearings are a suspect, if the machine seems to wobble around. Also if the load is high, does the noise go higher, if so check the suspension, check the mounting and the counter weights.

Knocking in washer

Hi,
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

good luck.........

Kenmore 80 Series washing machine - loud banging at end of spin

With the lid open, set the cycle to spin and press the lid switch button with a pen. Wait until the drum gets to full speed and release the lid switch. If the drum makes a knocking/ thumping noise and doesn't stop spinning within 2-3 seconds, the basket drive block is worn and needs to be replaced. (The basket drive block is located on the gearcase drive shaft, under the tub and agitator) If this has been happening for a long time you may need to replace the brake and drive tube assembly as well.

If that's not it, let me know and I will try to help you further.
Good luck!

Washing machine

it could be the break above the transmission. it engages what looks like break shoes when the machine is not spinning. if these are worn down to the rivets then it will make this noise. it requires a special tool to replace.0de7df9.jpg

Agitator fall off and knocking noise during spin cycle

there should be a rubber washer with the bolt. if it is missing the bolt may back of during agitation. also the threads on the transimision may be stripped. Some Green lock tight found in most hard ware stores should help. the knocking noise is probably due the agitator coming loose.
