Please help I have a laptop (Compaq Armada E500) which has suddenly brokedown on me and does not work. When I turn it on it loads windows and then says the following: "autochck program not found - skipping autocheck." Based on your description, it would seem that Windows is looking for a program that is no longer there and either halts/freezes or does some other thing out of the ordinary.

Initially, suggestion/procedures are:
1. Boot in "Safe Mode", that is press F8 before Windows start to boot and arrow up to select, hit enter;
2. It may take some time but soon as Windows has booted in Safe Mode, go to "Start", click on "Run", in the next small windows, type "msconfig" less the quotes, hit enter;
3. In the msconfig window, un-check everything you feel would not be needed. They maybe updates and autochecks. Normally, what is only important is your anti-virus. Or you can try unchecking everything, restart Windows and see what programs does not run or if any glitch(es). Thereafter, you can F8 again an check to restore the missing programs.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
