May be the USB support is disabled in BIOS setup.
To correct this enter the BIOS setup.
If oyu are not familiar with BIOS setup, open all main menus and check for 'USB support' (but do not change any setting!!!)
If 'USB support' is set to 'disabled', set it to 'Enabled'.
Save and exit from Setup.
Restart computer.
Check whether USB ports are working now.
