I have a Dlink routerand am able to connenct tothe internet but cannot access the 192.168.1.1 to make sure it is set up correctly. It dropoff everytime that I shut down and then have to set up broadband again. When I go to cmd ipconfig /all it does not show the default gateway. I previously had it working correctly and had to recover my pc since then tried to set it up with the cd but would not copletely install and configure. How do I take it off completely to reinstall.

I would contact your ISP for help with this one. It should work but you would want to check the LAN and WAN settings to make sure they work on the network since there have been changes.

Do you have the Internet connected to the Internet port in the back of the DLINK? You will have to configure the DLINK for internet access. Open a web browser to your DLINK and check on the configuration under internet-setup. Select the type of internet connection you have i.e. DHCP, PPPoE, Static, etc. Once that is set up, you should have access to the internet like before.

You need to call your service provider so they can set it up and activate your network connection.

First thing to try is to set up the wireles connection again. Just like you did the first time, but use the "Connection 2" or 'connection 3' option. Let the wii search for access points and pick yours. If it can't find any access point then you know the wii is defective. If it finds access points hopefully yours is on the list. If not then maybe your router is at fault. (Wii Options->wii settings->internet->connection settings->)

carry out the resetting of the dlink router
then use lan cable to gain access to dlink router,
set up the internet conenction (i.e. your internet provider modem plugged into the dlink router also)

if it has a built in wizard then just follow the on screen instructions

you will need to define SSID (wireless network name) and passkey (password for the wireless connection)

and the your done. disconnect the laptop from wired connection and connect via wireless

you need to replace your modem with a router that is capable of running Network Address Translation. You are trying to route private IP's (192,168.x.x) over the public IP (internet) network.

log in and put in password.

set up router to automatically assign IP addresses and enable DHCP.

make sure your computer is set up to auto detect proxy settings when connecting to the internet.

When you connected your PC directly to the modem, were you able to get the internet working automatically or did you have to run a dialup-like connection?

If it worked automatically, try this:
1. Connect a PC to a numbered port of the Dlink router (don't connect the modem to the router nor the PC)
2. Open Internet Explorer and enter http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar. This should then ask you to login. (restart the router and the PC if nothing happened then try again)
3. Enter admin for the username and blank for the password
4. Once you're on the Dlink Setup page, click on Network Settings on the left panel.
5. Change the Router IP address to 192.168.2.1 then hit Save Settings
6. Now, connect a cable from the Speedstream modem to the WAN port of the Dlink router then check if your internet is working from the wired PC.

If its still not working, turn off the modem and the router and then power the modem first (wait for the lights to be stable) then plug the router.

First you have to make sure that you connected it correctly. the cable coming out of the modem should be connected to the single port (Internet port) at the right when facing the back of the router.

All computers that are wired through it should be able to access the internet. if one of your computers cannot access the internet you may want to check the IP address that you are getting. (go to a command prompt and type ipconfig).

If you are connecting a wireless computer check the wireless security setting which you can find at the configuration (setup) page of the router. to access the configuration page check the owner's manual.

how far away is the laptop from the router? what is the laptop using to connect to the router? wifi? usb wireless device? etc
