This will probably need to be handled by a professional. With this particular Bernina, you might be able to adjust the needle position so that it is slightly off center and will not hit the presser foot. That would be a temporary fix, however. If you want to be able to thoroughly enjoy your sewing time, you will be happier if you take it to a certified Bernina repair site and let them adjust the needle position.

How to take off needle plate on Bernina 170

Bernina calls this the stitch plate (where the feed dogs come up and the needle goes down). To remove the plate, turn off the sewing machine. Remove the sewing table if it is in place. Take off the presser foot and remove the needle. Open the free-arm cover (bobbin cover in the sewing machine front view, page 4) by tilting it down towards you. Press down on the back right corner of the stitch plate and lift the stitch plate off to remove it. See page 68 of the manual for the Bernina Artista 170 for the pictures that go with the above steps. Bernina has the manual on the product page: https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Machines-US/Series-Overview/BERNINA-artista/BERNINA-artista-170 . The current link to the manual is https://www.bernina.com/BERNINA/media/Support/Sewing_Quilting_Embroidery/artista/artista_170/Documents/EN/008853-73-04_Naehen_a170_EN_online.pdf .

I hope this helps.

The needle or the bottom bobin holder on my bernina is mis-aligned or the timing is off so that the needle hits the rotating bobin holder every cycle. Is there a way to adjust this.

There is a way to adjust this though it is quite labor intensive and takes some specialized tools. My first recommendation would be to change the needle. The timing on BERNINA machines is far less likely to be off than on most other modern machines. The chances are far greater that your needle may be bent and is hitting the hook.

How do you start embroidering a design where the thread breaks on a Bernina Artista 180 sewing/embroidery machine?

Most machines have a stitch counter, stitch forward and step back features. Check your manual and embroidery machine's screens for this.

IN case you have misplaced your manual I found this one for you. It's big so allow time to download.

How do i remove the hook from the bernina artista 640

If you remove the hook on a 640, the timing of the machine will need reset, and that involves pinning the machine for precise timing!

Needle broke of and I think it went into the bobbin area. Now I think that the timing is off . I have a bernina 180.

Have you removed the broken pieces? The bobbin holder snaps out with 2 side holders to remove broken needle pieces. I don't think that the timing can get off by a broken needle. My first original bobbin holder got damaged which was made of hard plastic, from embroidering, and I ordered a stainless steel model which is available from a Bernina dealer, and all works very well for the last 2 years, there was never any problem.

Broke a needle

Best scenario is that the needle hit deflected and hit the hook that the bobbin snaps on to. When needles hit hooks they can leave a mark or burr that the thread will catch on when it comes around. Take out the hook and run your fingernail over the edge from the point back. If you find a burr get some crocus paper (very, very fine sanding paper and polish the burr off.
Next would be that your machine is knocked out of timing meaning a trech will have to reset it.

Bernina artista 640 embrodry

For a 640: Make sure the machine is off then Press the reverse button and the needle up/down button at the same time and keep pressing while turning on the machine until the service screen come up. Select the "i" icon and then the icon that has a picture with the clock and a question mark. That will show you the hours and stitch count used. To exit the service program just turn off the machine.
