The most important thing is to understand that the door spring can KILL YOU. If you are not absolutely certain that you know what you are doing, call a garage door guy. Many poeple get SERIOUSLY hurt.

So, you need two perfectly fitting rods to fit into the spring tightening end of the spring..
Release all spring tension. Release the opener.
Level the door with shims if necessary.
Install the first cable and turn the spring main rod to hold tension.
Put a vice grip on the main rod to keep it from unwinding any more
Release the 2nd cable spool and thread the other side cable. Turn the spool to have the same tension as the other cable.
Then wind the spring about 6 revolutions. (35 flats or tool insertions).

Verfiy the cable is still threaded correctly on both sides.

Correct spring tesnion is when the door will stay at 1/2 closed.
REconnect the opener and good to go.

the cables are about 8 feet long run up along side the door and attach to wheels above the garage door and turn on a track. they are very thin cables. no chance for injury, just need to know how to attach them back on the wheel

My garage door will not open but approx. 8" , no cable broken , chain on track. Today I found that one spring is broken. how hard is it to replace.

I have built many garage doors and installed many door openers. The typical garage door spring is not that hard to replace. I have to have 2 steel rods 1/2 inch in diameter to slowly tighten the spring.

My stanley garage door opener motor runs but it won't open or close my door

If the motor runs and the chain does not then you have stripped the gears and will need to replace them. If the motor runs, the chain moves but the door does not move then the trolley is not attached or needs to be replaced. Thanks BB

How to reset garage door opener pad without old acess number

A Stanley garage door keypad is wall-mounted, battery-operated device that allows you to open your home's garage door electronically without having to manually lift the door or use a pull chain. The keypad uses a four-digit access code that you program after the keypad is initially installed. You can change the code, disable the keypad manually by entering a invalid code and reset the keypad if the device is not working properly. After you reset your Stanley garage door keypad, the device is ready to accept a new access code.

Need to tighten chain on stanley model # 3220.50 Serial code 9101

IT MAY BE ON THE FRONT END OF THE RAIL.

MANY OF THESE ADJUST WHERE THE CHAIN CONNECTS TO THE TRAVELER.

DON'T MAKE IT TOO TIGHT THE BUSHING AT THE POWER END IS PROBABLY ABOUT GONE (THIS IS WHAT CAUSES THE CHAIN TO GET LOOSE) LEAVE A SAG OF ABOUT 1.5 INCHES.

ALSO START WATCHING THE ADS FOR A GOOD DEAL ONCE THE BUSHING IS GONE THE UNIT IS TOAST - PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR MOST STANLEY UNITS.
