MW24FM1 Toshiba Combo...DVD player broken

The DVD player will not play DVD's. The only message I get is:

"Please Check Disc"

For awhile, using one of the DVD cleaner discs would work...now that won't even play.

I know the issue is simple: The lens needs a thorough cleaning or needs to be adjusted or aligned or something. Can someone please explain how I can do this myself? It's already broken; so I am not worried about making it worse. Seriously, can I just pull the back off the unit and try to handle it myself?

Please do not respond if you are going to tell me to go and get an external DVD player and hook it up. I am only looking for the specific answer to my specific question. How do I fix this myself?

Thanks!

I'm assuming these are direct drive motors and not belt(o-ring) driven. Is there an easy way to get to the dvd drive?

I picked one of these TV's up for free. Same problem. The laser had been pushed outof alignment. I took apart the TV and pushed this laser back up. Instant solution.

I did clean the laser at the same time.

DVD Player stops reading disc Error message :

usually this happens when lens cannot read the the disc. Due to few reason 1 Your disk is scratched 2 Your DVD lens is covered with dust 3 You need to replace DVD lens
Try another few CD/DVD to rectify whether there is any problem with dvd you are trying to play
if this error occurs on all the dvd you played then the most likely proble is with your DVD lens either its coverd with dust use Disk cleaner if not you got to replace a new DVD lense as per model

Broken disc left in DVD player

Depending on how involved you want to get. The cover needs to come off to access the disc. Not all that complicated just remove screws and remove cover and your good. Just remember what screws came out of what holes, some might be longer or shorter.

Sony MW24FM1 either won't respond to DVD commands, or turn-off

Sounds like a bad power board. They have random meltdowns all too often. Usually the cause is an overheated transformer caused by power transistor short outs. Possibly sell it. Could get over $100 for it if sold online.

Toshiba TV Combo MW24FP1, DVD player doesn't work on some discs

This is a common problem for all combo units. The high voltage of the TV section attracts large amounts of particulate dust from the air and often it collects inside the DVD unit. The best way to deal with this is to clean the lens of the DVD unit u sing a cotton swab and alcohol. The store bought "cleaners" MAY work, but that is rare. These cleaners are nothing but small brushes embedded into a disc. They attempt to brush off hte dust. This rarely works. Open up the unit (if you feel comfortabel in doing so) to access the DVD section. Remove the top cover and carefully clean the lens. That should resolve the problem.

Dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck
