You should have got a System Recovery disk with your laptop. If it is stull under warranty, you could ask the manufacturer to send you one (not sure what the response would be if not still under warranty).

There is no legal download of XP and any illegal download is risky in the context of viruses and other infections and, because it is a Windows, might not have a valid Product Key included.

SOURCE: dell inspirion 6000 is showing "loading PBR2.....done. NTLDR IS MISSING.HOW TO FIX

Use the Restoration Disk. When asked choose Repair.
(Non-Destructive Installation)

You are missing basic Windows files. Boot loader files.
Also you may have to prepare to replace the harddrive. May have bad Sectors on it.
Means I would copy off all personal information, after getting that laptop going again, or you may lose it.

My CD/DVD drive won't read/play DVDs and it won't write DVDs either. It used to do this fine, but it doesn't anymore. It will still play and write CDs, but not DVDs. I have tried EVERYTHING to...

You probably will need to replace the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) in your laptop. Go to Google and search for "Dell Inspirion 6000 CD/DVD drive" to find a replacement.
To be sure it's the CD/DVD drive that's defective and not your operating system software, you could also try to boot from a boot-able DVD disk.

When i start up my dell inspirion 6000 laptop the logo comes up and then screen goes black

When you see the Dell logo, it means the system is booting and you see the splash screen that is generated on the motherboard.
Apparently this is where it is stopping.
Here's what I would do: First when you boot the computer, press F12 to get the boot options. Choose the diagnostics and run the system diagnostics.
You can also try to press F8 to get the computer into safe mode, but I'm thinking if you see nothing other than the splash screen, that may not work. If you are presented with Windows boot options, choose safe mode and do a system restore.
The last thing you can do if you have the Dell system recovery disk is try to do a repair from that CD if it allows you to do so.

Trying to Wipe Hard drive but Dvd player dosent reconize the disk

Try cleaning the CD, first. If still a problem, the CD may be bad - try in another computer to test.

Hi,
Do you have Dell Recovery Disk?, they usually come when you buy the laptop.

If you do:
Inset Disk 1 into the drive and Restart your computer.

Follow the on-screen instructions and you will be asked to insert Disk 2. Do so and wait till everything has finished installing.

If you don't have the Recovery Disk then you need to get them from the Dell.com site.

Dell inspiron 6000 drivers or recovery cd for win xp sp2

You need to go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the 6000 laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.

Inspiron 6000

Your instalation is screwed. Get the original disks that came with the laptop and reinstall everything and you should be good to go. Dont forget to change the bios settings to boot from cdrom/dvdrom first so as when you power up, it loads from the cd, not the hard drive.
