Every time that I put in a function such as Y1=(square root symbol)100-x^2) Y2= -Y1 and both functions are highlighted at the equal signs, but after I hit trace it will only do Y1. I have experimented and my TI 84 will not do more than 1 function at a time. This is relly going to hurt me at Algebra 2, and even my math teacher tech wiz has absolutly no idea whats wrong manuel was no help either. Can you help?

At some time or other you executed the Transfrm Application. I remains in ram and takes over the graphing duties from the native OS. You must unload it from memory. Do not worry this will not delete it.
To unload it from RAM

1. Press the APPS button.
2. In the list of APPS look for Transfm. You will have to scroll down or Up (faster) to get to it.
3. Select it and press [ENTER]
4. A new screen is displayed inviting you to Uninstall or Continue.
5. Press the number key corresponding to Uninstall.

Return to the [Y=] function editor to type in the functions to graph. Make sure that the = signs after the Y1,Y2, are highlighted. If one of them is not highlighted, move cursor on = and press ENTER

First thing to do before any new type of problem
1. Turn StatPlots OFF : press [2nd][STATPLOT][4:PlotsOff] [ENTER]

Second thing: Clear the statistical lists
2. Press [2nd][0][PGRM] DownArrow to point to ClrAllLists.
3.Press [ENTER][ENTER]

Third thing : Configure the graph type to be FUNCTION graph
4. Press [MODE]. If FUNC (on fourth line) is highlighted. Press [Y=] and start entering the functions.
5. If FUNC is not highlighted, use Down arrow till 4th line, highlight FUNC and press [ENTER]. Press Press [Y=] and start entering the functions.

Fourth thing: Enter function and select them for graphing
1. As you start entering the function Y1=, notice that the = sign becomes highlighted. Press [ENTER] when Y1 is typed in. Make sure the = sign for Y1 remains highlighted as cursor moves to Y2=.
2. Keep entering the functions and verifying that their = signs remain highlighted as cursor moves to another equation.
3. When finished press [ENTER]
4. Look at the graph style for each function: it is a bit of line to the left of each Y. Here is a picture of all the 7 styles.



To set a graph style, highlight the style to the left of the Y, and press [ENTER]. Each time you press [ENTER] you see a new style, in the order shown on picture.
Avoid the style of Y6, it is bubble, and as such will burst and disappear once graph is finished. Avoid also the triangular ones (for Y3 and Y4) they will shade areas of the graph, and may hide other functions.

Fifth thing: Graph Functions.
1. You can press [GRAPH] to see your graphs.
2. If one curve is missing (and you have not set its style to be rhe bubble), it may be due to the Window dimensions.

Sixth Thing: Set Window dimensions and Zoom.
1. Press [ZOOM][6:ZStandard] to use standard window dimensions.
2. If curve still missing, Press [ZOOM][3:Zoom Out] to zoom out so that you may be able to see a bigger range for the functions.
3. If necessary press [WINDOW] and set the Xmin, Xmax, Ymin,Ymax to values of your own.



Dimensions must obey the conditions: Xmin < Xmax, and Ymin < Ymax.

Clear the you the RAM to revert to default settings and restart. I am including screen capture fro a TI to show you how to set up the calculator.



Notice the white-on-black equal signs. For a function to be drawn, the equal sign in its definition must be highlighted. To effect that you scroll left to the = and press ENTER. You will know the function has been selected for graphing if its equal sign remains white-on-black after cursor has moved to another location.


Here is what the 4 functions look like. They all are on same graph.
Now we will change the graph style of the cosine function.


The only difference between the first screen and this one is the style of the line at the left of the Y4. To change the style, you move to the cursor to the left of the Y and press ENTER. Each time you press êNTER, the style for the function in question changes. Here is the product.

The wavy curve (cosine) is now dotted.

Suppose you want to draw the circle the equation of which is X^2+Y^2=4, a circle centered at the origin with radius 2.
When you isolate Y^2 and then extarct the squre root you obtain two solutions, call them Y1 and Y2
Y1=SQRT(4-X^2), Y2= -SQRT(4-X^2)
You press[Y=] and type in the right hand side of the equations above, one in Y1= and the other in Y2. Press [GRAPH].

Ih a graphic does not appear within the scree window adjust the window parameters ( [WINDOW]) or Press [ZOOM] and select ZoomIn, ZoomOut, ZoomSTD, etc.

Explore the program Draw accessible by pressing [2nd][DRAW].

To view both graphs, the = signs on both y1 and y2 must be contained in black boxes. If you put your cursor over the = sign on the second equation and hit enter, it turns that graph off and you won't be able to see anything but the equation in y1 line. If there is not black box around the = sign of any equation in any of the lines you have typed an equation into, you will not see the graph.

Here how you do it taking as exemples y1=x^3 -5 and y2=abs(x^3-5)
Turn calculator ON by pressing [AC/On] . Use arrows to select [Graph] icon and press [EXE]
On line Y1= enter X[^]3 -5 [EXE]
On line Y2= press [OPTN] [F5:NUM][F1:abs] [(] X [^]3 -5 [)] [EXE]
The graphs will be drawn one after the other. You might have to adjust the window limits.
Here is an ouput drawn on another calculator.

For negative values of the x-variable, Y1 has negative values, while in the same range, Y2 has positive values, equal and opposite to those of Y1. In that range, Y1 and Y2 are symetric of each other with respect to the X axis.
For positive values of the x-variable, Y1 and Y2 are identical.
