Cleaned the glass and the line is still there

  • Fridie1 Jun 16, 2008

I don't get the line when I scan from the glass, I only get the line when I feed it thru the document feeder.

Thanks so much for your help

I have the same problem with my scanner, when I use the feeder I get black vertical lines on document. When I use the flatbed no lines appear. I have cleaned the class. Is there a maintence kit on these?

The scanner glass is dirty. Its usually caused by a very tiny spec on the glass.

Clean the glass and it will go away.

You might want to check it again in the light and see if there is spec on it. 99% of the time that is the cause of it.

It's either that or call a tech in to look at it. That way they can check the rest of the optics in the scanner area.

There should be a seperate piece of glass for scanning on the ADF. That is the culprit. See is you see any tiny specs on the glass.

If that doesn't work it might have to be removed and cleaned by hand.

I am getting a very precise, dark line down the middle of anything scanned - fax or feeder-copies. Cleaned all available areas & changed toner cartridge without success.

Hi,
if you have already cleaned all the areas in scanner, then the reason should be an error in your scanner interface cable. This is the flat, grey cable which is connected to scanner lamp. Try to disconnect it and connect it again. When you use your Canon just for printing, there should be no dark lines.
Also maybe you scanner lamp has a problem. These things you can't repair.
Good luck

My HP Pro 7780 has recently started making copies (through the feeder) with 2 large blank streaks down the middle of the page (lengthwise). I am worried that this is also happening when I send a fax as...

Does this happen when you print, or only when you copy? If you print out a configuration or user settings page, or print a page from the computer, is it also missing two vertical lines of print or is it only when you are copying?

If it happens when you print, you may need a cleaning, or you may need to replace the toner or drum cartridge. If it's an inkjet machine, there's a possibility there is some ink or grease on the encoder strip (a small belt-like plastic strip that goes through the print-head carriage).

If it only happens when you copy, test both the flatbed and the document feeder. If it happens on both then you may have a bad scanner. If it only happens when using the document feeder, you likely have some whiteout (or something) on the glass. When you make a copy in the flatbed, the scanner moves across your document. When you make a copy using the document feeder, the document moves across the scanner. In this case, if there is anything on the scanner glass (like whiteout) your copies will be missing a vertical line of print data (it could be white if there is whiteout on the glass, or it could be dark if something dark is on the scanner glass).

Usually you can lift the flatbed cover and look at the glass to see if anything is on it (usually at the left side of the scanner). Clean the glass, first with alcohol to remove the obstruction, and then with a little windex to remove anything the alcohol may have left behind.

Only scans one page ata a time it says it can't recognize paper for ADF

The bulb has nothing to do with the paper feeder.
Open the door and ther has three or to tires or rubbers so clean them with glass cleaner or 98% alcohol if after that dose not feed again you should replace the feed rubbers

Use scanner copies print not solid

Clean the optical path. Remove glass and use very fine quality micro fiber cloth with no cleaning agents to wipe mirrors and glass. reassemble and test. If no better then maybe focus is off!

Ricoh aficio 1515f printing dark line down left side

If the print can be rubbed off then this suggests the fuser unit is not working correctly. It could be that the thermistor is covered with toner and making the machine think the fuser is hot enough when it's not.

The black line could also be caused by the fuser if one of the pick off fingers is coated with toner or has worn into the Teflon of the roller.

Does the machine show the lines when you print a page from memory - such as a counter or config page? If not, this would suggest the optical path is dirty. Try cleaning the glass and look at the mirrors inside the scanner to see if they are dirty/dusty.
