VIPER 791xv. I lost the keys and remote. I just got new keys cut and bought a replacement remote. I have read through the installation and owners manual and am still a bit confused on programming the new remote to the alarm. The installation guide says to press the valet button the number of times relating to the channel desired to set. I pressed it once as that is the channel for auto/standard button configuration for the remote. the light is supposed to blink the amount of times that you press the button. It blinks five time as I am only pressing it once. Is this because the alarm is activated? Also, I do have the siren wire cut so I do not have to deal with the sound, but I can still here the relay clicking. Thats how I know the alarm is still armed. So, can I not program the remote because the alarm is active? If so, how do I deactivate the alarm to program the remote to it?

    Are you familiar with this system. I have learned that the Viper 791xv is the same system as the Clifford RSX 3.5. Anyhow, I bought the car with the alarm already installed. The guy I bought it from does not know anything about the system. By disconnecting it, do you mean bypassing the hotline (positive) to the alarm?

Open the door, key to ON position,within 5 secs press the valet button one time, then press AND HOLD it the second time. While holding press the Lock button on the spare remote. Let go and turn off the car...your done.

To my knowledge you need to completely disconnect the alarm from the car's power to completely de-activate it. These viper systems are real buggers when it comes to turning them off and reprogramming them. Did you have it installed by a place there locally, if so they should be able to help you get this accomplished.

Please let me know, I am researching this for you but it is not easy by any means..

    Yes that is exactly what I mean... and yes I am very familiar with the model... not sure about it being the same as the Cliford model mentioned but that wouldn't surprise me in the least.

there was a recall on these units for the antenna. Unplug the antenna on your windshield, let it sit for 5 minutes then plug it back in. You will need to contact your authorized dealer to replace it under warranty if you are the original owner of the system.

someone cut the ign 1 and or 2 wires. you need to do a bit more trouble shooting. find the install manual and go back over all the steps. kind of sounds like someone may have lost the keys at one time and just used the remote. or they set it up for a security thing so no one would steal it. they never figured someone would bust the ign lock and use a screwdriver. but hey get the manual and go back over the install. you will find it.
