I have a PS3 slim console and it is having some internet problems that I cannot figure out. I have a CAT-5 ethernet cable plugged directly into my modem which is directly connected to my PS3. Many times when I am playing online with other people on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, my PS3 will suddenly start freezing up and then it will kick me out of the game. Then the screen will read An Ethernet Cable is Not Connected, when really there has been no disconnection between the PS3 and the modem. Then if I try to sign in again to my PSN account the PS3 will either let me back on or it will read DNS ERROR. My current internet settings are: Connection Method-Wired Speed and Duplex-Auto Detect Address Settings-Automatic MTU-Automatic Proxy Server-Do Not Use UPNP-Disabled Media Server Connection-Disable Also, when I am checking the internet settings it will say NAT Type-Failed I do not understand what the issue is at all. Thanks for helping

PS3 Not Detecting Ethernet Cable

If its not the cable and not the switch port rhat its plugged in to, about rhe only thing left would be a failedfailing ethernet port on the ps3 itself. When you look into the actual port, do the wires look good? Try plugging the ps3 directly into some other ethernet device to see if you get a link anywhere. The actual link pulse and whole process of the initial handshakes, etc for AutoNegotiating the speed and duplex matching settings sometimes doesn't work with some brands of equipment. by using other equipment connected directly to your ps3, you'll simply be testing that the problem doesn't exist with another nic or port brand. Try several devices, preferably all devices with gigabit capability to support the Auto Mdix functions so that you don't have to use a crossover cable. If you connect the ps3 directly to a pc with only a 10/100 mbps adapter, you will likely need a special crossover cable to get that connection's link light lit up. If your ethernet switch supports configuration settings (not likely though if its a basic home internet router), try forcing the speed and duplex settings of the switch port to see if anything helps.

How do i connect to my wireless thats in my home...says connect ehernet cable my desk top is in the other room i have wireless why do i need too connect with cable

You don't.

Turn off PS3 system..
1: Reset your modem by unplugging it from the main power source.
2: After a few minutes, plug modem power back into modem. Allow all connections to configure
3: Turn on PS3 system.
4: Go to "Settings" then scroll all the way down to "Network Settings"
5: Make sure that the "internet connection" (the second menu) is "Enabled"
6: Go to "Internet Connection Settings" and once you are prompted, select "Wireless" rather than ethernet. Ethernet is only when you have the cable plugged directly into the console.

What wires plug in where for wired internet does it hook up to the router

You'll need a CAT-5 (or CAT-6) ethernet wire plugged into the ethernet port on the back of your PS3 with the other end plugged into one of the ethernet ports on your router (assuming your router has multiple ethernet ports). These ports will usually be labeled 1,2,3.. etc. Do not connect to the LAN or WAN ports on the router. If your router only has one port, you'll need to get an inexpensive ethernet switch to connect to the LAN port of the router and all of your computers, PS3 and other ethernet peripherals to the switch.

HOW TO INSTALL PS3 TO INTERNET

There are two way basically, you can either a) hook you PS3 up directly to your router or modem using a CAT-5 cable (RJ-45 or regular old internet cable, whatever you want to call it) or b) hook up to the internet using the built in wireless adapter of the PS3. (provide of course, that you have wireless in range of your PS3)
If you are in your PS3's menu, go to settings and then network settings. You should be able to figure the rest out from there because it basically walks you through it.

Hope that helps

Sorry if the answer seems vague... but the question was a little vague as well, just doin' my best.

My sony PS3 wont connect to the net , (error 80710723 ) what does it mean ?

I believe you can connect it directly (via CAT 5 cable with a RJ45 connector from a router), or via WiFi, if you have wireless internet available where you are trying to connect.
FYI the CAT 5/RJ45 connector looks like a male phone connector, just a little wider (there should be a female RJ45 on your PS3 console). Also to connect to a wireless router, you should find instructions in your PS3 manual. If you need better information, please provide us with more details.
I hope this helps, and Good Luck.

Can't connect ps3 internet

Try entering the WAP code or whatever security you have correctly. If it still refuses to work try plugging in your brain by sticking your index finger and middle finger in the socket.

PS3 internet problem

Hi, best way to connect the PS3 is to buy a router, wireless or wired router. and if you go for a wired one, connect the ethernet cable (RJ45) from the PS3 to the Router,

Other option is plug ethernet cable into PS3 & other end into the Network card which will be built into the base unit, otherwise you can buy a ethernet card which should cost you about £10.
but you will need the PC switch on, whenever you want to use the PS3, as well as you will have to configure the network setting to get it working,,

Have a good new year

Ps3 wireless

It depends... If you use a router for the Internet then you don't need any cable, just turn on the router and then go to the PS3 and configure the PS3 to work with the router. If you have wired internet, then you will need an Ethernet cable, but since the PS3 comes with an Ethernet cable, you don't need to buy one. With the Ethernet cable, you have 2 options. If your modem has an Ethernet port, then just connect the PS3 to the modem directly. If the modem doesn't have an Ethernet port or direct connection won't work, then you can use Internet Connection Sharing to connect your PS3 to the Internet.
