The rule I follow when using a signal booster, is read the manual of my gateway and check the Max range of coverage, if it is 50 meters I'll place my signal extender at 25 - 30 meters away from the Router, if you go to the edge of coverage circle, your signal extender will suffer unstable signal, and would fail to boost the signal.
I think the problem must be with the router. When it drops the connection, you can see other networks but not yours. that means at that time the wireless signal on your router must not be broadcasted. WRT160N router has issues with the firmware. Youcan try to upgrade the firmware of the router. firmware is the software of the router. Once you upgrade the software, unplug the power to the router and plug it back in. wait for a moment and now observe the connection. Click here for more information about the router and internet
First off, the computer gets the signal from the router, not the other way around. Secondly, depending on the amount of walls, thickness of walls, amount of interference, the range on your router may not be far enough to reach your computer. If you used to get a signal and no longer can, unplug everything and plug it back in after a minute, that usually fixes the problem. If there is still no signal, try moving your computer closer to the router, or the router closer to the computer. If it is simply that the router does not have enough range, consider upgrading to a wireless n router.
Turn off or move any other gadgets that may emit a wireless signal. Other wireless signals may prevent the router signal from being as strong as it should be
How is the signal strength? Check and make sure the antennas are not loose. Is your house the old style concrete? Sometimes thick block or concrete walls are tough for the wireless signal to get through. They do make larger antennas or signal boosters for wireless routers. You may need to install one of these to boost signal strength. Also is it wireless B,G,or N? Wireless B has a very weak signal while wireless N has a very strong signal. Sometimes the router settings can be changed to adjust the signal strength and may be set too low also.
Does the wireless light still lit on the router? You can try changing the channel on the router (1 6 or 11) ans moving the antenna. If those things did not work upgrade the firmware of the router and reset to factory default. Do not forget to save the configuration file before you reset to factory default.
tat dlink device is a good device i shld techinically still produce signals
but wat happened to antena if it is broken u might as well go for new router
as far i remember u wont get antena seperatly
on ur mac book scan for signal see if u are pick up signal
if yes you are lucky it shld still transmit else go for a new router
Try getting one of those signal checker's . You can buy them from circuit city for like $20 bucks or so. Then walk from your router to your computer checking the signal along the way.
Signals can be impacted by a variety of things... like walls, shut doors, etc.,. However, if you are standing in the same room as your router in clear line of sight and have no signal , you may have a bad router.
