Playback trouble, video, and sound skips, with a squeek noice. I have a Canon ZR 100. What should I do? I did clean heads. Maybe not well enough? What kind of head cleaner should I get if I need to?

Yes, first thing you need to do is get and use a head cleaner. Here is a great product from panasonic. Made in japan and one I prefer. Recommended use is every 50 hours of recording/playback.

If you need any further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,

Either have it professionally cleaned, or if you have this model it is time to upgrade to a newer model as camcorder technology has improved greatly and prices are lower then ever.

My playback video jumps after recording on tape also audio lever rises and fall i does not have this problem when record on the memory card i have a canon Zr camcorder

I have seen this problem many times, the recorder unit needs to be replaced, either something in the tape path has become out of alignment or dirty like a capstan motor or gears or the video head assy is defective. I hope this helps.

Wont record anything to MiniDV tape and A/D randomly working

Hello,

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

Horizontal lines on playback screen

Someone here recommended on another post to put the lense cap on & videotape the blackness in a quiet room for 5-10 mins. I tried this as a last resort & it worked. When I played back the tape, no more skipping or gray lines. I had 4-5 SOLID gray lines with skipping video & audio in between on every tape I put in. I think the person who helped me solve this said that it was a result of the tape alignment going off. My camera is a Canon zr80 digital camcorder. (Called Canon, they had me reset it & then recommended sending it in).

Wide Horizontal lines on playback

Wide bands in the playback video indicate a clogged or defective video head assembly. If your cleaning tape appears to resolve the problem, the heads are getting contaminated. I would not use the same tape in this unit. Try cleaning the heads and then use a brand new tape to avoid clogging the drum assy again. If this does not resolve the problem, the drum assembly will have to be replaced. Hope this helps. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

Grainy Playback

1. Starting at http://www.canondv.com/zr60/ I read it has a digital zoom. You will find that such to be less useful that one expects. 2. Low light levels can result in more graininess. "Recommended illumination: More than 100 lx" Notice that 100 lux is pretty bright. Try 200 lux. 3. I must ask this: Did it ever work? 4. From the specs: "Image sensor: 1/6" CCD (charge coupled device) approx. 680,000 pixels (approx. 340,000 effective pixels-tape)" 340,000 pixels is OK for common video work, but today's consumers might compare a frame to some multimegapixel camera. This is just 0.34 megapixels, so grain may indeed show as you blow it up.
