That error code indicates that a ribbon calibration should be performed. Please download the (free) Fargo Workbench Utility program (Drivers Downloads), and perform the ribbon calibration from the Printer Information tab, and then testing screens within.
Insert the ribbon in the printer, as you would normally. Go to your "devices and drivers" or "printers and faxs" in you start menu. Right click the DTC 550 and select printing preferences.
With the Ribbon installed, printer head lowered, and the top closed. Click the "Device Options" tab. On this screen you will see a button, towards the top, "Auto Ribbon select". Click this, and you will be prompted with a "Ribbon select success".
Now click the "Calibrate" tab at the top of the window. Select "Sensors". Another window will appear. Under Ribbon calibration, click send.
If the problem persists, you may have to update your printers firmware.
some labels are hard to calibrate, nee to calibrate the sensors with manual calibration.
1} go to the MEDIA AND RIBBON CALIBRATION,
2}take 2 or 3 labels from the base paber, load the way to the based paper stay unther the sensors, 3}close printhead.

5} Move the ribbon out from sensors and close the printhead.

7) wen printer ask RELOAD ALL, load the labels correcly and the ribbon, close the printhead and the top door, and press ok. The printer run the calibration it self.
wen finish, saved (press setub twice) and test.
Enter the Menu system on the front panel, cycle around until you find calibration. Press the select button here and follow the instructions, when it asks for you remove ribbon remove it, it will ask to load the backing. Remove a label from the backing and let it do its thing, eventually it will ask you to load all. Re-install all the media and it will calibrate, after this it will fix your error. If it doesn't there will be a sensor that has failed.
When you open and close the lid on this printer, it tries to realign the ribbon. If you are getting this error, I suggestion you Calibrate the print ribbon through the print driver printing preferences on the Calibrate tab.
you can try to recalibrate, it might help. take the ribbon out, close the printer, go to the drivers, go to the sensor area of the drivers, and select calibrate.
