SOURCE: K8MM-V Motherboard Prob

If you are talking about the sound that the computer does for when you turn it on, it's a small round speaker with two thin cable connected to a plug, if this is not connected to the mother board, then you won't be able to hear it.

SOURCE: Msi k8mm-v board not detecting SATA 320 GB HDD

peets, is this drive a slave drive? if so, make sure you have the jumper ******** the hdd set for "slave" , the instructions that came with it and on top of the hdd itself shows you where that is. You should have it set up for this anyways so you can format it to your liking(i.e. if your going to partition it out or use the whole 320GB for your data). after doing this you will need to go to you bios screen when you boot up your computer(setup). Go to standard or advanced bios settings and see if the new hdd is there, your bios should recognize it, if not, make sure you write down all the info for your hdd (size, cylinders, heads, type) and input the info for a correct installation and when you are finished, make sure you save the info (F10) and (Y) computer will restart and it should see the new hdd. Also, I take it you have CD/DVD driveconnected to your primary SATA or IDE port, this should not be a problem, if so send a msg back.

SOURCE: what is the latest bios update available for this motherboard?

If your PC is working without any problems leave the BIOS alone. If you don't know what you are doing you can make your system unusable.

BIOS updates should only be done by those with a good knowledge of Operating Systems and are not for the amateur.

If you knew what you were doing you would not be asking the question.

Hi, according to your mobo manual it supports SATA1/SATA2 hard drives so it's recommended to update BIOS, the latest I found it has release date 2006-06-29, you can find it in the folllowing link: Support For K8MM MSI Global

Will K8MM-V MS-7142 Motherboard supports 500GB Sata 3(6gbps) Hard disk, by setting to 1.5gbps speed ?

The designers of SATA aimed for backward and forward compatibility with future revisions of the SATA standard.[citation needed] To prevent interoperability problems that could occur when next generation SATA drives are installed on motherboards with legacy standard SATA 1.5 Gbit/s motherboard host controllers, many manufacturers have made it easy to switch those newer drives to the previous standard's mode. For example, Seagate/Maxtor has added a user-accessible jumper-switch, known as the Force 150, to enable the drive to be switched between 1.5 Gbit/s and 3 Gbit/s operation. Western Digital uses a jumper setting called OPT1 Enabled to force 1.5 Gbit/s data transfer speed (OPT1 is enabled by putting the jumper on pins 5 & 6). Samsung drives can be switched to 1.5 Gbit/s mode using software that may be downloaded from the manufacturer's website. Upgrading a Samsung drive in this manner requires the temporary use of a SATA-2 (SATA 3.0 Gbit/s) controller while programming the drive.

Problem with BIOS. Cannot change system date.

Put all default setting on CMOS setup and then set the date by checking that the replaced one battery is energetic enough to meet the system requirement. I mean to say having 3V as it should have.

best of luck!

My windows time is getting slow gradually. What should i do ?

Hi,
There could be two reasons for the same,
1. The coin cell battery is drained and need a replacement
2. The motherboard software (BIOS) has gone bad , would require an update .

The following link is the BIOS update link for the motherboard. Before update make sure , all external peripherals except the keyboard and mouse has to be disconnected . Also verify the the existing version of the BIOS
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8MM-V.html#/?div=BIOS

If the above steps donot help, Then the motherboard needs to be replaced.

Always start up with cmos checksum error, cpu ratio has been change

A BIOS checksum error is most likely caused by a flat BIOS battery.
Replace the battery with a new one (it is usually a coin size battery - type CR2032) and then boot up and go to the BIOS configuration and set the Date & Time setting etc.
